Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Protracted layoffs will stress us out of our minds

I really wish they’d just tell us what’s going to happen and when. We’re working ourselves into a frenzy here. Jobs are scarce, bills are high, and being laid off in times like this is pure panic fuel. It would be nice if they at least handled this professionally and with a bit of basic consideration.

This is how layoffs go. Try working at companies who are going through multi YEAR 'transformations' and right sizing, not uncommon. Been there. You just have to accept your fate, be prepared, and take the next step forward. It's literally all you can do.

@OP I put this on another thread but I'll say it here too. My partner works for a company that did this. They announced that the company would be going through a reorg over the next several months, and each area would experience layoffs as time went on. I can assure you that a formal announcement say you may lose your job over the next 4 months, and then watching friends and peers losing theirs over 4 months, is 100x worse than the anxiety of a few weeks of rumors before anything is official. I agree with the other poster who said something like "as much as I hate to defend Target..." but having experienced an announcement, it was worse than I one and done day. At least you knew right away, good bad or ugly. With all that being said, I feel for you and everyone who is experiencing any type of anxiety and stress. I am sharing this perspective just to say that the other option isn't necessarily better. There's no great way to deal with a horrible situation.

Aa much as I don't want to defend Target, it's the gossip and rumours on sites like this that build the stress level. Not really what they are doing.

The reality is there could be several rounds of cuts over the next few months. Nothing much you can do about it, except to stay calm and quietly explore your options.
