We were told today that if they don't get enough volunteers for strike relief that management will do a mandatory selection. How is it that they can tell non-union employees that they have to travel and work outside of their home state and cross union lines. Is management within their right to fire employees if they don't volunteer. There is even talk of volunteers being shielded from an upcoming RIF. This all just sounds a little too nuts to be true, doesn't it?

I worked strike in '16 in New York. Had a blast fixing Fios junk. Since then I've left the company but would come back to work another strike. Where do I sigh up?
And years later union employees were still fixing the mess management employees made. Some of those installations were criminal.
I’ll definitely volunteer again. Last strike allowed me to pay off my car loan and my student loans. They brought in food everyday, paid all expenses, and I pocketed some great OT and strike pay. The work was boring, but certainly not stressful. Count me in again!
Would make sense for company to reach out to last year VSP folks to come back as temp contractors. They could pay them less than mgmt OT rates.
Cha Ching ! Money,money,money!
If you are an hourly nonunion employee they can not force you to travel to another state and order you to cross union strike lines. If you are management salary they can. I bet you have not seen any requests in writing. I’m surprised that HR is not shutting this behavior down.
Back in 2015 during EWA the whole company went to the Northeast and did some EWA assignment. It was mandatory. Nothing new. For those that are picked you will be eligible for overtime. Make the most out of it
In my 35+ years at this company, I have NEVER seen the company seek volunteers in lieu of mandatory strike assignments. They may ask for volunteers, but believe me, if your job is not critical to company operations, you are going to be assigned strike duty, especially since the management backfill ranks have been drastically reduced since the last strike. And the planning is already in the works. And yes, they can force a management employee to go out of state and cross union lines, unless you have some type of medical accommodation. Happens every time there is a strike.
