Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

LA office to close

I heard from an AVP and SVP that T is exiting out of the LA buildings by early next year. It seems with the DirecTV sell off being completed, the company has no need to maintain office space or further operations there.

Anyone else located in LA hear anything? Are they being laid off and offered severance or told to relocate to Dallas first before that becomes an option? Does it make sense to relocate to Dallas in such an event?

@jf You meant to say conservative sh!thole red cities.

For example, we can’t afford to subsidize service for the inhabitants of whatever conservative sh!thole red city where you, your cousin/wife, your 8 mentally defective children and the ‘72 Pinto on blocks that all of you call a “house” is located.

AT&T cannot afford to operate in liberal sh!thole blue cities anymore.

Is the El Segundo office the old Los Angeles Cellular building? Been 20 years since I worked in California.

Big T don’t like to Kaliforny.
Just shut you all down.
Do like that income though.
What portion of the network is in CA?
One county in CA is the equivalent of an entire state in other parts of the network.

so you really think RTO is about culture change and not a sneaky way to trim headcount to hit targets? Sure thing and while we’re at it, I’ve got some unicorns, rainbows, and a few shiny mirrors to trade you for gold

@by if you think leadership hasn’t done everything possible to earn and deserve the bad internal and external survey results, the simp is most definitely you.

@aa

Chicken or the egg?

Are you telling us that leadership are simpletons because ATT was ranked 875, or are you telling us you are a simp because you repeat it nonstop?

Well right before RTO, like literally a week or so before , they announced that they were moving employees from El Segundo to Tustin, south of El Segundo.
They even stupidly moved the IQ Bar employees to Tustin. Then they reversed course and announced that El Segundo was now the LA region “hub”.
So, yes they are id--ts, and yes they reverse their decisions all the time, but no, I doubt they will move everything to Dallas because LA is here to stay.

@a2 “ changes like these are all in service of the culture change”

You mean the culture that has us ranked 875th out of 900 employers in that Forbes survey?

They are moving out of the current El Segundo office to a new office in the area or at least that is what we have been told multiple times. The current place is still nominally the DTV headquarters though it’s a ghost town because DTV is still remote.

I wouldn’t put anything past these people when it comes to lies, but they would lose a lot of legal and marketing people if they close LA.

One of the stupider aspects to the RTO sh!t show is that our genius company completely moved out of this space when we were remote and had to crawl on back when they forced people back to doing Teams calls from cube farms.

Why the fu-k is this still a surprise to people. Leadership has said countless times that workplace changes like these are all in service of the culture change.

The direction I am being told to be on safe ground - is work 8 hours a day out of Dallas or Atlanta. Anything outside that, you are on very thin ice and subject to relocation requests or layoffs at any moments notice.
