Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Do you worry about those left behind?

I had some great colleagues at O, truly top notch people. Some were riffed, others were not. Sometimes I feel concern for the survivors, as they will be under great pressure to do the work the laid off used to do, and the workload was already very heavy. My group has already lost over 50% of staff over the past 10 years, and it was becoming difficult to keep the lights on before this blood letting, which still isn't over. And I'm hearing about attrition as some of the survivors are fed up and are leaving on their own. I can't say that I blame them.

If you worry about those left behind, then you were a good coworker and friend to your colleagues. Kudos to you, wishing the best for you whatever comes next.

@a2 This AI worship is getting out of hand, and it's not even prime time yet. There's no AI tool that can do what I did. My team was also short-staffed and even worse so now.

If there's one message to be taken away from the culling this week, it would be that "no one is safe". Those still there are probably best served to starting looking around and treat any time spent there until their number is called as an extended severance package.

We that are still here do our jobs, when the day is done we live our lives. If you are freaked out by any of this you have not been paying attention. You have no-one to blame for your choices but yourself. If let go its been a nice ride, onto the next chapter with head held high

The woman who fired me from O told my manager an hour later to use AI to do what I used to do. This is not an exaggeration.
