Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Survivor guilt

Anybody else feeling this way knowing that people with more experience (who helped me when I needed it the most) have been laid off? I'm grateful I still have a job, don't get me wrong, but I still feel incredibly guilty, even though I know none of this had anything to do with me.

It’s a financial move, those let go were because they were paid too much and those left because they are felt worth paying.

You are likely not lucky, you are next. Maybe not today, or tomorrow, but at any unexpected moment.

This is the only lesson from this, you are nothing to Oracle. And how they select who to fire makes no sense, there is no predicable pattern.

You should really try find another job with a company that when restructuring at least let you finish up and hand over before you go. And that let your immediate manager has some impact on who to let go, to cause the least harm to the team and product.

I would maybe feel guilty applying to the same jobs as those fired when still having a job...

Please don't feel guilty. You had no control over what's happened. I am expecting to get laid off when the EMEA cuts starts, given the cuts on my team in US and India. Brilliant people gone. I was a survivor many years ago when my whole team bar a few were cut. I felt guilty and distraught for those who lost their jobs then, but by far the majority went on to better careers outside Oracle.
