Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

There is no accountability with the sales and the customer service reps. This is unacceptable.

I work in AT&T customer loyalty and this job despite how well they pay is living he-l. If you are not sitting here fighting customers into keeping their expensive outdated TV service, then you are spending hours on the phone with a customer fixing a mistake another id--t employee made.

There is NO sense of accountability with this company. We got sales people messing up accounts and lying to customers to get a sale, adding duplicate accounts causing customers to be billed twice for the same service, adding cell phone lines for no reason, changing wireless plans for no reason and causing customers to lose TV discounts and internet discounts that they cannot get back. If I get paid a nickel each time a customer calls to waive valid activation fees that were promised by retail, I’d be set for retirement and I’m 31 years old. We have loyalty reps not disconnecting services when requested by customers and it screws over the next person who is unfortunate enough to take that call who gets a hit on performance and their commission check because they have to disconnect accounts. I’ve had accounts where the caller requested to cancel because the account holder passed away and the account wasn’t disconnected for 6 months and $320 bills were automatically deducted from his bill. The charges can’t be reversed and management won’t approve to credit the account. Yes I had to cancel that account, get a massive hit, and me walking away from the phones because I’m too pi---d off to take another call where a customer is screaming at me because I had to correct another lie the next buffoon said to her.

Don’t get me started on the time a customer got charged 4 seperate times for the NFL Sunday ticket, and twice per month for the full 6 month installment period. I even have the notes to prove it. He was supposed to get it free but these mo--ns added the ST without removing the current ST that he is already being billed causing the customer to be billed multiple times. He said that he had to call every month to get the bill fixed and even though he’s not billed anymore he said he’s going to cancel when his contract expires which would have been 32 days away. If he called back within 45 days to cancel, I would have taken a significant ding my numbers.

If I did the same cr-p these mo--ns did on a recorded call, I would get a discipline. This sh-t happens EVERY.FU----G.DAY. Billing errors caused by id--ts. Every day. AT&T is doing nothing about it and for the 3 years I worked for them they have done nothing to fix the errors they are facilitating their workers to make. I’m sick of getting screwed over because people can’t do their jobs. I can only send out so many SPFTs a day but it feels like nothing is coming out of it.

I can’t wait to one day quit and put them on blast on social media.

Seems like the CS and Sales teams got their training at the Stankey School or Business Ethics, where the motto is 'If you ain't lying, cheating, and stealing, then you ain't trying!"

Typical day of being a CLG rep. Basically don’t take it personal and do the bare minimum while passing your score card.

Who would ever expect honesty from a sales person. Their job is to SELL ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THEY CAN......

If the order cannot be fulfilled it's not the sales persons responsibility, it's another departments responsibility.

If the service won't work it's the repair departments responsibility.

Sales has only ONE responsibility -- SELL.

That does not cultivate honesty.

That's why I refuse to go into a store or buy anything through a Service Rep. Order on line and have it shipped to my house. Cant trust the Service Reps, they'll add tons of cr@p to your bill.

This is 100% the truth. I resigned because I couldn't take the shady ethics and lack of accountability for retail reps and 3rd party retailers (news flash, most AT&T retail stores are 3rd party retailers), and the ones at the kiosks in Sams/BJS/Target are even worse. Phone reps are expected to bat cleanup for this mess, but they definitely aren't being compensated enough for the customers they retain.

AR, Best Buy, wal mart vendors ect. Will tell a customer anything ! And then customer service will send the customer to a core store knowing they can’t fix it . Store managers are not going to have a bad KOI because of non union id--ts

Sadly if you talk with customer service advocates, whatever the title, at Verizon; you will hear the same or very similar stories. It’s an industry wide problem and seems to get worse over the years. I agree with the OP, the job is terribly stressful and your well being is more important. Invest in finding another job. Good luck.

This company is a complete disaster. Incompetently managed, unethical, dishonest, treat their customers and employees like kr-p. This is only a paycheck until you find something better. Not a career for life.

I was in retail sales for 16 years with at&t and I can tell you the lying to customers is encouraged. Management does not care as long as you get the sale. At&t is the worst company I have ever worked for. I now work for a great company and I wish I would have left sooner. Good luck to you and know better companies are begging for great people to work with them.

Sales has not had any ethics since 2000. Expecting it to change is futile. Buck up or move on to greener pastures.

My first day on the job I was asked if I lie. I said no. The gentleman that asked the question said, you will.

It’s beyond my control. Why am I being punished on a daily basis for things beyond my control? I lose money on my commissions, I get bad surveys and even sent in a performance plan because other people can’t do their jobs.

There was a time when somebody in your position could endure it for a few years and then move on to a better job within the company and have a good career. Sadly, those days are over.

Try not to stress out too much; the problem you described are beyond your control.

Start formulating an exit plan. This will eat you up if you do it for too many years. You are young. The world is yours.

I am a at&t retiree. Years ago I had DirecTV and my contract was up. I called them to let them know I was not going to pay $120 per mo for TV. First they tell me what a bargain I'm getting for $120. Then they try to sell me a downgrade in service with a premium price. I kept telling them I'll negotiate price but will not go down in service. We agree to a price on their recorded line. Next month's bill is $135. Evidently with no contract they had a price increase so I talk to loyalty - can't do anything and they tell me to call corp cust svcs and I do. That rep calls me a liar so I told him I'd pay the agreed upon price and that he needs to go pull the recording that they made "for quality assurance". He comes back 5 minutes later and tells me he cannot find anything, that they don't offer my plan for that price and he doesn't want to honor the agreement. We go back and forth a few times and everytime he starts up I reduce the price $1.00 and he says I thought you said the agreed price was $45 - yep and everytime you tell me that you don't have it, I'm lying, what a great deal $135 and on and on, I'm deducting a dollar. So I tell him, just turn me off - I'll go elsewhere and then he tries to tell me that I'm committed for another 2 years, there's a early termination fee and $135 is the price.
I kept repeating turn my service off and finally just tell him, I'm recording this also - I don't have a contract - I was told $45 and that's all I'm paying - and then he starts in about sending me to collections. Fine! Turn my service off and send me a final bill. All I'm paying is $45. Period. They do, I jump to Sling and those Jerks call me the following month and seems like daily I get mail wanting me back. I even change my telephone #, (vonage because at&t removed my 30 retiree concession) and
I will never buy anything from these crooks and I highly encourage friends, family, neighbors, everyone to look elsewhere.

Years ago I called AT&T and told them to cancel my $15 employee benefit for internet . I was having trouble with it for months so I was jumping ship after calling repair a few times . I called spectrum for internet at about the same speed and price . However , unknown to me after I told T to cancel my internet . I get a call a few days later from T asking me how my internet was working now . I told the guy I had spectrum now and it was working fine . I see on the next bill T was now charging me an extra $24 for dial up internet costing me $39.......... so I called HQ to complain to ED and got the $39 removed .
