Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

COR Retail Dillsburg, PA - CLOSED

My manager was on a 3hr phone call this past Monday. We got our notice today: we have the choice between either working as an at-home call center worker... or being off the pay-roll in two weeks.

I asked about severance, apparently, if they offer you call center work and you turn it down, that isn’t severance, it’s turning down employment. Severance is only being offered if you are officially laid-off from a store.

My entire store is closed and every employee was offered call center work or exiting pay-roll. Start finding a plan b ASAP... before you get a choice too before quitting or call center work.

They can offer you a position only if you qualify with your current internet otherwise they have to severance you out, if you don’t have internet nor meet the speed you get paid out!

Sorry to hear OP. My store is also closed for good, my reps were notified Monday that they’ll be receiving the call center offer on July 1 and have 24 hours to accept or decline. Maybe they have a different union contract because they were told if they decline they will still be eligible for severance and off payroll July 15th. Orange contract. I told my team the same many others here are saying- give the call center a chance and still get paid/benefits etc while looking for another job if you don’t like it, giving yourself more time. Just my opinion, but I wish you the best of luck, it’s not a good time to be laid off, especially in the current economy.

take the call center job... you get to be at home... if you want , you could spend time looking for another job from home , at least its employment for the time being. You could also look while they are training you for the call center job. What's so wrong with an at home job?

"Take the call center job and perform in a manner that they fire you and get unemployment."

Where do you people come from? You don't qualify for unemployment if you're fired from a job.

Yes, my store was opened after we closed for COVID. We were first on a reduced schedule and then we went back to business as usual for about a month. Then Monday, my manager got the call, we were informed the store will be closing in two weeks.

I agree with taking the call center position unless you have another position lined up outside the company. It will be easier to look for a job while you are currently employed. Milk it for as long as you can.
