Especially if they don't have a new job lined up? (Those who do I understand perfectly.) A coworker is so fed up with AT&T that he is considering just walking out. No severance, no job lined up, nothing. I understand he is upset, but how can he not see this is the worst possible time to make such an impulse decision? There are no jobs out there! Plus, with all the layoffs, severance is within reach of pretty much everybody right now. Why waste an opportunity to walk away with some extra cash?
I think this is one of the reasons the company has been treating us so abhorrently lately. Push everybody to their breaking point so they walk away with nothing.
