Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Friday is the day. Workers will only get 2 weeks notice and then you are gone.

In order to keep the beast fed, hard working people are going to be fired. 2 week notice. You cannot apply for another job internally.

This all a massive scam to benefit upper management. These losers sit around doing nothing and will sell you down the river for a quarter. Don't believe the propaganda. Its all BS. They simply do not care.

I know. I used to be one of them. I still cannot get the stink off of me. May God have mercy on my soul.

If you are going to talk about the WARN act and say how leadership is going to try to find a way around it you should at least understand what you are talking about.

Yes AT&T is required to provide warn notification, but read the WARN act cicrcumstances that trigger warn. I don't think the company is going to hit the triggers and I don't think it has hit them in the past either. It has nothing to do with COVID-19 or an act of god. https://www.dol.gov/sites/dolgov/files/ETA/Layoff/pdfs/_EmployerWARN2003.pdf

  • * The company would need to close a facility or discontinue an operational unit affecting at least 50 employees, dont think that trigger is going to happen.
  • * Lays off 500 or more from a single site and the layoffs constitute 33% of the total active workforce, that would require ~ 69,000 layoffs

There are additional cicrcumstances but they are based off these first two. This whole thing s—s for sure but people act like upper management actively plot how to screw people over. A big driver for this is Elliott and the unfortunate truth is that a pblic company is required to make the board happy and we are very bloated largely due to aquasitions.

Depending on the state you live in, WARN says: 60 days OR a Severance matching your amount of service time.

AT&T is paying out that severance, so they don't have to do the 60 day thing. That't it. They aren't pretending coronavirus caused this to get out of WARN, they are following the other WARN option - you get a severance and no notice.

“Its worth noting T-Mobile is giving laid off Sprint employees the full 60 day Warn act notice.”

Of course they are. Those extra Billions Randy gave them helped at a time like this. Just be happy your sacrifice here is helping another persons family.

It's worth noting T-Mobile is giving laid off Sprint employees the full 60 day Warn act notice. They are not trying to weasel out of their moral obligations like the deathstar.

Why does the company even give 2 week notice? I have seen friends get laid off and basically walked to the door the same day. I think T does this so the poor s—er can be around to transfer his work to the ones left behind. If I am tapped to leave don’t expect me to be very thoughtful in a peaceful transition of my projects. Not my problem any more This waiting game is stupid

Don't know why the technicians in the out of region areas aren't being affected! There's no work, the techs are essentially working part time and sitting around an awful lot! This company makes NO SENSE what-so-ever! There are people in OOR that would like to be offered a chance to voluntarily leave the payroll, but instead T decides the younger people that still need the paycheck to support their families are better targets and cost less to kick to the curb! This company is heartless, always has been! Get out while you're still young cuz there are plenty of solid companies out there that do give a damn!

OP is no longer with the Company. He just spreading rumor and fear. Per his own words “I use to be one of them.” The Company has a no retreat rule so if he stepped away, he left the business. Not a current employee which means he has zero real information regarding any surplus or layoffs. Any words is strictly speculation. It pathetic that he has to troll this board.

Are you sure the hard working people will be laid off? I would hope they lay-off the lazy people.

KeepItReal - No, I am not. I resigned because of the lack support and the fact that I just could not do it anymore to people I care about. Took a big hit financially, but I have my life back. Well worth it.

You have a lot to atone for OP. I really don't know how this company's leadership lives with themselves.

Lol 60 days notice....T used the COVID “get out of jail free” card on that one. Read what upper management put out: 14 days and your off the books no ifs, ands, or buts.

The 60-day requirement doesn’t apply due to the coronavirus being considered “an act of God” which allows them to give just 2 weeks’ notice.

Nice try, but businesses always make sure the laws work in their favor, with loopholes wherever needed.

So just go work at a soup kitchen to feed these families losing their income, and redeem yourself. Even saul was able to turn things around and become paul. There's still hope for you and your ilk.

As long as policy says 60 days notice for management, and non bargained they will still be compensated for those 60 days.
