Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Observations about the post layoff process...

1) My HR person made a big deal about using the EAP. Others said the same happened to them. Are they worried about something? Have they staffed up the EAP?

2) I was told in writing that I will not get my severance agreement til sometime next week AND will only have 50ish days to look at it. Not that I'm going to spend much time on it...already interviewing, but WTF? These things are electronic,

3) Was told to not even bother calling the HR line for the next month or so if I could avoid it. What, are they also too cheap to hire phone bots?

Finally...no outplacement until you sign the severance and they receive it. This means many folks are going to spend 3-4 weeks without any "help". Some of these guys I worked with who are now laid off never worked anywhere else or had to fashion an outside resume.

When my spouse was laid off at another company, they had them in outplacement the following week. Kept up spirits, camaraderie (tho these days I assume outplacement is Zoom-pbased...)

Above someone stated EAP - Employee Assistance Program, was for resumes etc, it is NOT, that is called Outplacement by a company LHH Lee Hecht Harrison. EAP offers counseling etc. The programs are different.

@LaidOff2 Yes, HON has a noncompete/trade secrets clause but it's not enforceable in a right to work state, such as Arizona. HON has been vindictive in the past, sending threatening letters to some former employees and their new employers, but I doubt they have the bandwidth to do that now. Just follow "don't ask, don't tell" and move on with your life. Everyone needs to do whatever they can to take care of themselves and their family.

Question, I haven’t received the Severance agreement yet. Curious if there is any language regarding Non Compete to prevent us from applying within Aero? Not like there are many jobs in Aero right now but still...

We called the HR help line cause we missed a check. it was delayed because they had so many severance packages to process! Got the missed check in an off-cycle payroll the following week.
Some recommendations.

  1. Return severance as soon as u are comfortable cause it will delay pay
  2. Ask HR to send you your pay stub ( USPS) to verify pay and deductions.

Best of luck to all. Life after HW is a good thing.

@nxe: Here's the link to the Arizona DES unemployment site. You can go ahead and file for unemployment immediately but you have to report any pay you get from Honeywell, like severance pay. When your severance pay runs out you would get unemployment payments.

@gai: The current $600/week federal unemployment bump is ending in late July. I wouldn't count on congress getting their act together and both parties agreeing to continue it.

I know in AZ that you cannot get unemployment if you are receiving severance payments. But if you hold off on signing can you get unemployment checks until the date you start getting severance? Might do this at least while they have the $600 extra federal funds

The E.A.P. (Employment Assistance Program) assist workers whose job loss was the result of increased foreign imports or shifts in production out of the Unites States. It teaches the basics of writing a resume and how to start finding a job after a lay-off. It provides group therapy sessions with other in your local community that have recently lost their jobs. It is to help teach those not familiar with how to find a new job the basics of job hunting. Honeywell HR pushes it so you will quickly sign their employee Hold Harmless Release and they finished with their HR RIF process and can move on to the next RIP.

At this point in the RIF process they want you to sign the “Hold Harmless Release Agreement ( I.e Severance package), so they are DONE with you and you are GONE and you are out of their hair. Everything in the RIF process is designed to get you to sign the Hold Harmless Release Agreement as soon as possible.
