First, I truly feel bad for anyone whose job is eliminated. My own brother was let go in January, 2019 after 20 years with the company. I've worked with a lot of great folks in my long career, and it's sad to see some go that weren't prepared.
A lot of what I'm seeing really makes sense. Eliminating and discontinuing to offer services that lose money, and realigning groups that do around profitable customers.
Companies that manufacture products don't keep making products that nobody buys. Why are we selling services that nobody buys? If you sell hot dogs and hamburgers, but most everyone buys hot dogs, do you keep offering hamburgers even though you throw away 50% of what you buy when it spoils before being sold? I've seen a lot of info lately that points towards dumping losing propositions and and spending more on winners. That's business 101.
I see this as a positive thing for the long term survival of the company.
I also feel for those who will be forced out.
