Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

T-Mobile sent a email today 4/17/202 they are going to start layoffs

Kinda of funny the day after the deal gets 100% done we get layoff emails, then they tried to re-call it and replace it with same email without the WORKFORCE part!!!!!

WORKFORCE – We know there is a lot of talk about job security. Our goal is to have talent in the right positions, and leaders will be working carefully with their teams on this over the next 18 months to do that. And while some duplications and reductions might be possible in some teams, we will also see new career opportunities open in others. For now, our goal remains staying productive and focused on the business, delivering the best results for our customers as we always do.

We also know that career development and advancement is a high priority for many of you. At this time, there will be no changes to existing development programs, and all programs that are in process, will continue until further notice. In the coming months, we will evaluate how the development programs will change and/or expand to better serve our team members. In the meantime, there are several steps you can take to grow your career including working on your development plan, discussing your career aspirations with your manager and HR business partner/Employee Success Partner, as well as brushing up your skills, or learning new ones with our learning courses.

Those hundreds of Metro jobs in February 2020 should have been done in February 2014!! He just did what no one else had the balls to do.

Nearly 15 Sales and Operations Directors in each existing region have been given notice of separation as of yesterday 6/4. So about 30 to 5o total directors gone Jon Freier originally said nearly everyone below Director level which includes District Manager and District Ops Manager were also safe. He recanted that 2 weeks ago and now we await our impending doom. Most directors termed were from Legacy Sprint and Metro.

Hundreds of Metro By T-Mobile employees were laid off in February. On multiple calls Jon Freier stated that nobody would lose their jobs, worst thing that would happen is that you may work for someone you don’t like. Then he laid off hundreds of people on a conference call. The sad part, nobody knew about it. The direct supervisors didn’t know. Director level didn’t know. I saw a manager lose their entire team and had no idea it was coming. It was really sad.
At least now they are telling people that there will be layoffs. HR was not helpful in placing people in other jobs either. In fact, many of my counterparts could not even get a phone interview for open positions, for a similar position. Good luck to all that are not T-Mobile branded.

Can you elaborate on the national retail cuts?

Majority of job losses will be in TPR and National retail channels. At least in CA MOST jobs under direcretor are safe for now. I'm sure a few DM and Ops positions will be eliminated but all store level positions in CORP stores are safe. They announced today only 1 Sprint CORP store in central and northern CA will be closing. Tmo had to strike a deal in Ca that guaranteed no to extremely minimal cuts on the corp retail side for 3 yrs. If you're a TPR employee unfortunately you will be most at risk because you're not a Tmobile employee.

It is true. They sent the email with the workforce comments, recalled it, sent a subsequent email with the comments deleted. Several people on my team saw it and it prompted staff meeting discussions. AND yesterday in the quarterly meeting Mike Sievert admitted to layoffs coming.

Actually, this is 100% true. I saw the original email and the "recall" (luckily I come in early). I then found it funny that the paragraph about workforce was suspiciously missing in the updated email. LOL. I think people are deluded if they think there won't be layoffs. I keep hearing "but they said job positive". Well ... "job positive" does not mean "no layoffs". Last week, we saw contractors let go. Its a matter of time folks. Get your resumes polished.

The re-sending without the WORKFORCE part is even more telling than the original email that included it!
