Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

After the cut

I am an ex-Sun employee who was cut Jan 2017. And I am relieved. I was surprised how much stress it has removed from my life. The constant knowledge that Sun was circling Oracle's drain was eating away at me. Not knowing when I would get the axe is horrible. I do not miss that at all! I am in the process of job hunting. And I have a much better outlook these days. I have exited the black cloud Oracle has it's head in.

I actually feel sorry for those who still work for Oracle. How can you get productivity from people who know they are going to get laid off any day? Not a very good business model.

To the others in a similar situation I wish all of you the best of luck in the future. Think positive!

Many many companies pay better than Oracle. That's a fact. You can go check the salary on glassdoor.com. Oracle's total compensation is about 20 to 30% below market. I am happy I left O. You guys shouldn't stay there. The big 3 Cloud companies (Amazon, Microsoft, Google) are the industrial standard.

@5kll Better start looking! They will pay you to look for another job. Don't waste your time trying to close business for a bonus you will never see.

I've been at Oracle for 2 years, not in tech in CX (gag) but apparently the layoffs are coming for us in June. Biggest mistake of my life was coming to this company.

AWS, Microsoft, and Google will hire Oracle engineers. Oracle just wants to lay you off.

Funny, Oracle will hire you back for a whole lot more money once you get AWS, Microsoft, and Google on your resume. #SAD

@4wnd - indeed, AWS has and is hiring from Oracle Systems. You just need to bring your 'A' game, and leave behind any of the negative developed over your years at ORCL.

Go work for a cloud company. Skills are still relevant. Just not Oracle. Go to AWS, Microsoft, Google. They will hire you.

Yes, I'm in same situation @Oracle...we know the axe will come but don't know when. My current guess is until end of year 2017 but who knows? I can really understand how free you feel now. Since Oracle has taken Sun over 7 years ago they didn't increase salary and stopped investing in us (no more training, no travel to do workshops/meet colleagues/events etc. so we just live from knowledge we built before Oracle and trying best for customers every day. The bad thing is that we felt like part of a Sun family and we have spezialized our knowledge on our products in a long-term commitment. Now we are specialists but not for other companies, so the chance to get similar job with at least same salary is low and Oracle knows that and can treat us in that way and replace us by "cheap" beginners in low-cost countries. They still didn't learn that those beginners will move away after first learning phase if you don't pay them more and that the overall costs to train them, replace them, start again and loosing dissatisfied customers are not lower at the end. I'm still convinced that knowledged engineers are the base of serious and excellent service for customers.

I love working for Oracle. Oracle has an excellent work/life balance and their benefits and perks are second to none. I've thoroughly enjoyed working with world class employees who take innovation to extremes. At Oracle I know I am at working for a technology leader that makes a positive difference to our customers. Oracle even provides free soda!

I too was laid off Sept 2016 and while finding a job took 4 months due to the holiday slump, I am in the best possible position I could ever dream of. Working from home as a contractor doing my dream job. I do not miss going to that black hole.

What kind of package are employees receiving ? Is it based off how long worked there?

One must assume that the black cloud that the OP was referring to was a pun. Or so I hope ;-)

Productive - LOL! Most people are out looking for other jobs. And that includes one of the CEOs, ingratiating herself with the Trump administration to get a job there. Leading by example!

Productivity = 0

Compare to what's happened with oracle stock to google, amazon, Apple, SFDC, etc - they have all surged ahead while oracle stock has moved a meager 15% over the last 5 years. You could have earned 15% over the last 5 years holding a Treasury note. The theee stooges are an unmitigated disaster. As for MH, he's a hardware guy has not clue about software. The three stooges are destroying value and should be replaced but it may now be too late to actually right the oracle ship as it's going down, down, down. Moving the chairs around on the deck of the Titanic.

@LN3SZfM love the phrase "I have exited the black cloud Oracle has it's head in." you are right on the money. How can folks be productive under this strain ? Talk about mis- management, man

You are quite wrong. LE actually has been able to buy time with MH helping. Stock market loves him. He is the reason the stock is even where it's at now. Wall Street sees him as a billion dollar CEO. LE had no idea what to do with cloud and how to compete with the likes of Amazon and Microsoft. LE is old school. Those days are long gone. RI Sun.

LE is already paying a high price for not managing the company and hiring Mh - just look at oracle's share price going nowhere and the $10bn a year in cloud revenue, delusional wishful lsd cloud. This mismanagement is costing him tens of Billions in the value of his oracle shares

I'm an ex-oracle employee having been working in GCS BU. I left in 2015 before being layed off and had no problems finding a new job based on my skills.

There are lots of companies that enjoy hiring experienced and talented ex-oracle employees.

I'm sure you'll find an employer needing your skills. all the best to you and mh can go f?ck itself.

oracle s---s and has no respect for their loyal employees. le will pay soon the high price for that.

Kind Regards
