Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Fact or Fiction

Some leaders make claims that they know who posts on the site and can track it (even if not at work) who can confirm if they are just using it as a scare tactic?

GTFOH! You expect a company who lacks safe and sound controls and has been on regulators’ hot seat for years to track who’s posting here? Not a chance! They don’t even have resources capable of closing MRAs, MIGs, etc…

@19c with some of these listed attributes security only needs one to know with 100% certainty its you. In other cases (even with a VPN and proxy) they would need 2-3 of the attributes to know with 100% certainty its you. What’s real cute is almost all of this information is su-ked up by data brokers, USAA apps and browsers, their WiFi, USAA ads every second.

So again, yes. They can pinpoint who wrote what, when, where, what device, what router, what browser, etc.

Someone else posted, just don’t make threats, share proprietary information, or give them a “reason” to come investigating.

“Leaders” no. Security/ HR (given to your leader) yes.

Data brokers
First-party tracking
third-party tracking
Third-party behavioral tracking
IP address tracking (This can be covered by a VPN) but they don’t need your IP address
Session cookies
Persistent cookies
Third party cookies
Web beacons
Web pixels
Browser finger printing
Canvas finger printing
Ad sense
E-commerce
Web analytics
iOS/ android applications
USAA APPLICATIONS
EMPLOYEE APPLICATIONS USED AT YOUR HOME LOCATION
USING A DEVICE YOUR POSTING AT ANY TIME AT WORK
YOUR ICLOUD LOGIN USING YOUR NAME
PAYING FOR YOUR VPN WITH YOUR NAME OR A BANK ACCOUNT.

please believe. They can. That’s why you can post, just have limits (no names, no threats, no proprietary info). And NEVER on Reddit or Glassdoor (owned by workday)

@za there is quite literally no law they would be breaking. Taking information that is publicly available (annything on this site) and combining it with employment data that you have freely given plus leveraging any terms of services of any USAA applications on any devices connected to your name, ip address,

Some of you have never worked corporate security and it really shows. Furthermore some of you have truly never researched Cambridge analytica (and how it’s gotten 100% more intrusive since).

Ahhhh data scraping is so easy people. Couple that with the fact that most of us have the USAA mobile app installed. 🤦🏻‍♂️

But I guess if your using a good VPN + proxy + no USAA mobile app + no phone number + different location posting here than where you normally use your phone, sure. It would be difficult. Otherwise you’re a novice and literally and actually are under qualified for this conversation and your only assuming.

Just don’t use any USAA issued device to access this site and you’ll be ok.

Not unless the post is a federal crime that warrants a federal investigation, this site will never provide any IP info to any company or individual who requests it. This site will be taken down if it does, and it has been here for years.

You think USAA is gonna write to thelayoff.com and ask for the IP address of the person who posted at the exact moment? At best USAA receives a fu-k off as a reply or more likely just no response. Let’s just say you get the IP; USAA is then gonna ask your ISP to submit your PRIVATE and PROTECTED customer info? Not saying these cannot be done, but you should ask whether it is worth it. USAA might just break a dozen laws in between. I’m gonna sleep soundly knowing it’s never gonna happen.

@aa not impossible. After the compliance week articles they knew who was going to the site and who was forwarding links. They only took actions against people leaders / executives after being told not to. But it’s very easy for a company to find out what’s been done on private sites, they just need the motivation to actually investigate.

Hi. Try to find me. I'm in AB posting on here. You'll never catch me.

Anything can be tracked. It's just too time-consuming.

But if they wanted to investigate, they could.

@a5 If you use a work computer, be aware that any post to a website can be traced. Companies use advanced software to connect online activity to specific devices and individuals. Using a work VPN on your phone probably won't route traffic through company monitoring systems, but if you connect to the office's guest Wi-Fi, they can still track your device's MAC address and your history.

The best advice is: do not post content that could cause issues, and never post anything while using workplace resources.

It’s only a scare tactic, it’s basically impossible to know who post on sites like this, unless you actually put your name on the post.

That being said, I wouldn’t visit sites like this while using your USAA issued laptop or work phone, while in office I wouldn’t use the work WiFi either.

Also, make sure your social media is on private and even more important, DO NOT HAVE YOUR CO-WORKERS on your social media, I’ve known a few people fired for stuff they’ve posted on Facebook.

If you take a look around, Amala isn't around to protect Wayne's bullsh-t or how incompetent she was at the job.

Don't live in fear of these people that have failed.

@bz That's a sIgn of a very insecure person.

Insecure people when challenged with something out of their control that challenges them, will lie to protect their own insecurity.

If any "leader" makes that claim to you in person, you need to report them to HR immediately. That's harassment and forces a hostile workplace, both of which are illegal.

100% impossible.

There is literally millions of posts on this site across tens of thousands of companies.

If you are using your own device, aside from hacking the site (which would be a crime) they have no way of tracking anything here. I doubt the site itself is tracking anything as it would put them in a legal conundrum.

They only way they can get anything is a court order but you'd need to be involved in a criminal activty for a judge to issue that - free speech and voicing opinions is not a crime last time I checked.

If it's their computer that they setup.... maybe. Normally this kind of tracking is only used to prevent you from going to "bad" websites, or exfiltrating data, or whatever. It's normally not used to log any content you send/receive. And if for whatever reason they DO log it, it's normally not in some easily searchable form where they can track post A->computer C->You.

If it's your own computer that the goons have never touched, yeah, no. Not possible, even on their network.

I'd say 99% chance the "leaders" are just lying to you.
