Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Would you rather be forced to five-day RTO or be laid off?

I'd prefer severance.

@1ty thats not true. The 60 days do not reduce the severance package, at all.

Tbh I don’t get the big deal about RTO. I know I’m in the minority here. Back to back zoom all day. Makes me feel like I’m a call center employee. At least face to face meetings there’s life. Interaction. You’re moving.

Can it be done on zoom? Sure. I guess at the current rate of technology just seems like they’d be turning us into bots and the bots just start talking to one another 😂

@ea Depends on where you are at in the company - in the bank they reduced it to six months to a year based on tenure. Even then you get 60 days to look for another role and that reduces the package by two months.....then taxes. Ask me how I know LOL.

@1df considering I'm on the analytics team in marketing that analyzes these metrics, you are talking out of your Wayne Peacuck. I ignore the Voice channel due to the same dozen MSRs complain all the time. The most valuable post on that channel is when Jennifer has to shut off the channel for a day.

I love how ever single thread turns into 1: we hate management 2: we hate IT 3: IT doesn’t realize how much we hate them 😂

@1ez Counterpoint: in 2016 USAA had 123 IT employees and now they have 1,234,567 IT employees. See how fun it is to make up random cr-p without any sources to back them up besides "trust me bro"?

@1cn and will take 2 years. But no, IT is “adding value” gtfo

@1dg in 2016, at USAA’s largest onsite and first party presence (just over 46,000). The 2nd largest job family (after member contact:~18k) was IT/IT Management ~14.5k full time first-party employees. Today it’s a little under 3.5k employees (so I guess a 76% decrease).

@1ak I...don't even know what to say to this. IT has not shrunk by 80%. You're just making random cr-p up to try to prove your point.

@19s there are projects out there that cost $3 to $5M to determine if we should use orange or red borders on call-to-action buttons. What a waste.

@1ag well IT has shrunk by about 80% in the last decade, and we continue to reduce headcount in IT, data, analytics. Yet MSR headcount has only skyrocketed and largely remains unaffected by layoffs.

I’m not the one arguing where the value in employees are, our board, CEO and executives are.

ITT: MSRs who think being a phone jockey is "providing value" and confidently incorrectly claiming that a website that manages multiple lines of business is simple. Wanna bet on whether AI replaces MSRs or engineers first?

@x3: USAA's website is horrible. Now we know who to thank

@x3 let’s break down what’s so wrong and has us liking

“work directly on the website” - directly (no) | “work” not the vernacular |”website” not the vernacular

“As an engineer” - you’re a “website engineer”? Well that’s a industry first, USAA first, ESPECIALLY one that’s making updates to a simple site

Who of our members are buying anything on what part of .com or mobile? We don’t have e-commerce: everything to purchase is third-party or affiliate.

So magical website engineer making updates to our e-commerce site, “thank you” and bless your heart.

@x3 yes our “website” “engineers” I’m sure that’s EXACTLY who and what you do lmaoooo

@x7 you’ll file a jar and then take 5 months of FMLA and let the rest of your team do the work 😂. Be so real.

At this rate none of us will even have enough money to bank with the company we used to work for.

@x3 are you not reading the posts below of people literally saying they are going to not work? To try and work against the company? But sure we need an “engineer” to update a simple website that a dozen AI’s can not only update, but also develop, build QA and publish.

@sv Speak for yourself bud I work directly on the website as an engineer and what I do directly enables Members to buy stuff and MSRs to help them.

Maybe you'd better look in the mirror before projecting that hard.

@s2 or just an employee that’s eyes are open and completely aware of what’s going on around them. It happens to be exactly what’s actually happening in reality not only at this company but at most other companies. But by all means keep your head in the sand and theorize that HR is here sharing a reality that’s outside of your bubble.

Is @s0+1kb3cddqd HR or another disconnected hire from a company that has fiduciary responsibilities to shareholders?

You be the judge.

@dy it’s because we don’t deliver value. Read these forums or the post. The only humans delivering value are MSRs. We are just eating A TON of costs in salaries, provide zero value, and moan and complain and sue and refuse to work. No wonder why they are trying to automate/ have Ai do our jobs (even if it’s 80% worse). They probably see it as better than dealing with our expensive butts.

@g0 yup. Be an adult, show up to work and make your 6-figure jobs OR continue keep submitting fraudulent JAR and FMLA paperwork.

They’ve known about the fraudulent paperwork, know they are able to prove it and now they are actually firing these w@h freeloaders.

Look I'm gonna be honest: after everything they've done to us, I'm here out of complete spite. I'll jump through whatever BS hoops you want me to, but I'm taking my salary, what's left of my benefits, and I'm not spending a DIME inside that office.

They're going to have to lay me off and pay severance, I am NOT quitting. I've been here almost 20 years, I've watched them turn their back on everything they say they stand for, and I'm ashamed to even tell people I work here anymore.

I'm taking everything I can and letting them have NOTHING back until retirement or layoffs.

An honest question: What company have you gotten a good job offer from that allows you to work remote with no changes, in writing?

So the choice is to act like an adult and just go back to the way life was pre-covid or to get laid off? Is this really your question?

I’m going to second that the job market is really bad right now. People are looking for a year, settling for less pay and still may have to RTO at the new job. This isn’t the economic cycle to FAFO. Better to land a new job while still employed.

Average job hunt right now (for professional roles) is taking 6-8 months - and that’s taking a demotion. (LinkedIn Nov 2025).

Severance pay after taxes provides about 3.5 months of pay.

Just make sure you have extra savings. My husband is in the job market since July with 15 years of experience and it’s hard right now.

Next poll question: would you rather be paid less or lose your healthcare?

Would you rather have a hostile work environment or do more work?

How about polls that are solutions? On slack?

Juan doesn't care about employees. The next time he mentions a single thing about taking care of non-MSR employees in an employee meeting will be the first.

Is this site becoming some sort of informal HR poll on how to make people miserable?

How about the option where the privatized company just takes care of their own employees.
