Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

Telecommuters

Anyone else have people in their office pack stuff up, and told they’re being moved to telecommuter status?

I am in the Richardson office and a large number of people were abruptly told we’re moving to telecommuter. I’m happy, but don’t understand the urgency or the decision process.

@x0 Its AI tools. If the company wants to recruit new folks, the new time might work better vs 6am to midnight flex. You can still retire from here, change is not a bad thing.

@x0 if you’re from Mattoon, I’ve heard exactly that. Phone life is brutal, especially if you’re from Written. It’s a night vs. day difference
My condolences

Already been at home 15 years, working here for 19. Told today will have to start working on the phone 8-430, no longer flexible 6am-midnight. Will have to rearrange my whole life. So much for retiring here. So much for caring about employees

@b3 I heard that they want to hire from other states to expand the talent pool. This would explain the 250 mile rule and the sudden change to allowing more remote work.

@rs some people...why? What is special about them? Is it entire divisions and roles? If not why? Be honest!

@rq it was in the CEO message this morning in HCSC News. Some people in IT, customer svc and NBS will move to work from home and some others will move to different offices. If you are impacted you will get more info from your supervisor. If not then your role and schedule stays the same

Yeah you really think someone is going to post internal communication in this forum.

If you read what is below then you'll see that there isn't a communication that went out. Last week people were verbally told in meetings they'd be moving to telecommuter status.

Now people are waiting for a communication from the company about why or who or whatever is happening that they are moving those people to wfh

@gf

AI is anything but cheap. Given the state of AI in non Coding areas of employment, outsourcing is still the #1 threat by far

@gc we already outsource to India and the Philippines and so we likely will go to Vietnam as well. Exploitation keeps the c suite salaries high.

@g2 Vietnam? Are we opening a call center there?

Its just the roles that can be offshored out of office saves $ while moving to Vietnam

WFH saves money on overhead. Need to trim spending seems like.

@b5 there’s no movement from telecommuters into any offices, it’s all people being sent home.

Hopefully, they will stop with policy of must be in the office an average of three days a week and also must make up for PTO and Holidays by coming in more than three days a week. It is such an absurd policy, especially since coworkers are a mix of telecommuters and in different parts of the country.

@aa easier to let people go when they're already moved out of the office

The announcement is so confusing. Does anyone know which IT product lines are under impact from Richardson location?

by

Post ID: @b6+1kmqxfe37

@b0 it makes sense once you understand different areas can be told at different times with different time frames for the change. The point is there is movement both into the office and into new full time WFH arrangements, all moves to be completed within the near future.

@at shhhhh, get out of here with your rational thinking. ;)

@b2 they didn’t give a reason other than changing the way we work. Also the 250 mile requirement distance to live near an office has been removed from the policy. Probably due to national footprint of HS workers

Definitely not April fools, multiple info sessions held this week w information. More info to teams next week for those moving back home or changing office locations.

@ax @at is correct, the news already delivered to management level employees with announcement to impacted non management on Monday. Apparently in office collaboration was very important until it wasn’t.

Please sit tight. If and when you are impacted, you will be told. Yes, certain divisions will be announced (notified) Monday. Healthspring and legacy Blue are treated the same way…within a given division. It is so easy for these threads to go off the rails.
