Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Preparing for Q2 layoffs

It is no secret that Bank will have another round of layoffs in Q2, just by everything I’ve been hearing, end of April seems to be the target date.

Reading previous post on what happened back on Jan 28, don’t be in office that day, as you will be escorted out and laptop confiscated. Start taking certification courses NOW, because you won’t have access to Guild to register for more during the 60 day window. If you register now and do get impacted in a few weeks, USAA still has to cover the course(s). Send all your accomplishments, year end reviews and resume to your personal email, redeem all your recognition points because again you won’t have access to do it once they take your laptop.

More importantly, take your PTO, but use the floating holiday and volunteer hours first, as those are not paid out to you. With phase 2 of the “how we work” bank reorg, look to the person to your left and right, very good chance one of them will be impacted in the next 6-8 weeks.

Fmla protects your rights and gives you time off. However since it’s for your spouse, you won’t be eligible for short term disability. So in your scenario you will be using the same amount of PTO either way.

You could resign today or after your wife’s surgery. It doesn’t really matter. Especially if your wife doesn’t use your insurance. If she does, you’re covered until the end of the month.

I hope this helps.

@OP thanks for this information! I’m not sure what is going to happen in Q2, as a non-member contact bank employee, it’s a very sick feeling logging into work each day wondering if today is the day you get notified. I’m signed up for a few certification courses, and decided to go full time this semester to finish my undergrad. That way if I get impacted in Q2, my degree will be finished and I’ll have a number of certifications to help with external roles.

@s7 I made the comment about my MBA, what is WGU? I’m remote in Miami, so University of Miami is where it’s coming from.

@vq volunteer and floating holidays are not paid out. If you haven’t taken the minimum required days of PTO, you lose them. So yes, use your PTO!

Ask how I know.
I was impacted last year and since I hadn’t used 15 days, I lost them, same with volunteer and floating holiday.

Fmla won’t save you from layoffs. Rushing to use up your pto is stupid - they always pay it out

This site has some of the worst intentioned actors literally just making stuff up.

If you’re confused, have a conversation with your boss.

Do you think there will be any impact to PNC/Policy Modernization. Few mod teams are super strong in terms of backlog health

Thank you OP, registered for a few certification courses earlier today along with extra classes to finish up my MBA in the event my role is eliminated in Q2.

@ev main reason I got out of fraud late last year and moved to consumer lending as a process owner, that buys me another 6 months to save and plan, there’s only so much moving around you can do before the layoff notice catches you. A lot of fraud/AML reps were impacted back in January, which was just the start of reducing headcount in that area. Layoffs in Q2 will be on par with the amount of those impacted in Q1 (unofficial number is close to 1000), so another bloodbath with most coming from bank in project roles.

@bs FMLA doesn’t protect you from layoffs. Read the fine prints of the law.

HR isn’t going to be pleased to see this post, haha! Did they think employees who were impacted weren’t going to warn their co-workers about what happened to them.

But I do thank you OP for this post, as a bank employee I know it’s WHEN not IF it happens to me, it didn’t dawn on me that we’d have no access once notified. I’ll be sure to sign up for certification courses first thing in the morning.

Thank you for this! I’m pregnant and due in late October, I’ll be sure to plan on using all my PTO prior to going on maternity leave, and I won’t be like the kool-aid drinkers who split up their maternity/paternity leave, I’ll be taking it all in one lump sum. Then will put in my notice after the bonus payout in 2027.
