If they had a transparent voluntary process, I’m certain many over 50 with 20 plus years would signup. Most get it’s a business decision and nothing personal. Frankly, I’d volunteer and train my replacements on the way out. Enjoyed the engineering. Dislike the poor senior management that has placed the company in such a crippled state. If customers ain’t buying drives now. How is making a larger HAMR drive going to make them change their mind? Hmm. Something to think about.
Frosty should setup a military obstacle course at each site. Everyone on list should have one attempt at finishing course. Top finishers get taken off list and reassigned as servers on Air Frost One.
Hand me the severance and put me out of my misery. If only they passed around a sign-up sheet a couple of months back. Nothing is worth staying here anymore. No bonus, no inflation adjusted raise, no thanks.
IMO the 50+ were over-represented in the Nov and Mar cuts at NRM. I'm sure HR already got talking points from the same people who used the "final assembly is not in the US" excuse. Maybe along the lines of we-assumed-they-wanted-to-retire.
@erj+1mFibFBV sorry never stop......
trying to cover the lazy arses who lick round the leads stand chatting...but surprisingly when managers are about all work....makes me laugh.....
........enough full stops there
@pju+1mFibFBV lies lies lies.people sat on there a-s or stood chatting when other people workin...u must be one of the ones sitting..u want to work there's work to do...
@jvo+1mFibFBV....You can't put a shift in if there isn't the work to do it.
@Flying Ostrich .You might want to learn how to use full stops.
The layoff a few months ago was by $, not headcount - so it was basically a manager's decision between a few of the highest paid (ie, oldest) - or more heads of the younger and lower paid workers. Coincidentally, we gave up our 2 oldest and highest paid guys. This was new and it all seemed to signal the end of the early retirement packages to me.
“Age discrimination” ?
You haven’t been paying attention if you think that Seagate hasn’t been practicing age discrimination. The place is like Logan’s Run.
Every layoff the over 50s and the over 55s are over represented. There’s practically no way for them to continue to avoid the Deep Sleep. Especially with these constant rounds of layoffs.
Run Logan . . . Run.
@jvo+1mFibFBV not deadwood neither applies to me but I want out...the company is done less then 2 years I say...how long are they gonna send wafers from the USA so sprintown to send em back hardly ecanomically viable...new fab in normandale soon be filled with our tools.....pretty sure they can do what we do for less of a cost.....no union in America remember
Get rid of (1) those with a poor sick record and (2) those who are on a warning. Getting rid of the deadwood might make others actually put a shift in
Team oldie wants to go--dy.
.....let the ypung ones wreck the company......
Team Oldie for the win!
@vmu+1mFibFBV that's good then I'm safe...goodnight and god bless.
In the USA, that would be age discrimination. Those over 40 are a protected class.
Far easier to cut programs and facilities.
@uup+1mFibFBV not saying that but a days work would ki-l em...less than 2 years no redundancy needs to be paid..save money there and on wages...or let 5 people go at 4 years and save 5 wages there or let 1 person at 20 years go and save 1 wage...u do the math what makes more sense cheers
This thread cracks me up. As if the OP has any say, in who gets let go! Regardless the list is already finalized. Also you think the young guys are sittin around saying "we're still young, we should get let go first so the old folks can make it to retirement" LOLOLOL
I say get rid of those less than 5 years..keep the experienced ones.Young ones don't want to work nowadays just want to chat...I dont get paid to talk......
