Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Want to work in xom, don't say anything against MSP

Work delivered by MSP is of $hit quality and number of resource they add to work for data entry stuff is amazing but still if we say anything against them well its your fault, no wonder why company graphs is going down. Job which was done by 1 person in Huston is now done by 10 people in quest.

Do you guys know how munh under the table money /sweet benefit transactions occur that involve Indian Service providing companies and Indian recruiters?

I suggest to investigate this phenomena, specially in the IT sector. Corruption has many faces, sometimes it is done right in your face way.

We need a WSJ reporter to investigate.

@1xuu+1ez46Q4K , it gets even muddier. There are multiple MSP who largely work under the direction of BTC (ExxonMobil employees) on behalf of the various business units. Both MSP and BTC charge time to those business units. I understand there is a good bit of friction between BTC and MSPs. Keep in mind that BTC is largely made up of campus hires with zero experience, along with a few experienced hires lead by a slew of clueless supervisors (including expats). On the MSP side, these are largely experienced folks with a few younger new hires. While the MSP teams do most of the hands on work, the BTC teams want the credit and visibility when things go well. When the quality of work is poor, BTC blames MSPs.
Ready for a few more wrinkles. There are some in Houston who direct work from the business units to BTC, now you have a third player.
One last fun fact, business units can go directly to MSPs via a direct PO. The MSPs love this while BTC hates it and in fact discourages this approach.

I am on the Business unit side of the mess and it’s only getting worse.

@fkd+1ez46Q4K Interesting, thanks. Even worse than I'd imagined if we're really leveraging contracting companies to provide services we used to be capable of in house that they're even then subbing out.

Credible strategy going forward...

MSPs are ready to take on any type of job. It's really incredible. If you're looking for somebody to unclog the john, they might well say “yes, sure we can do it”.
For the client, quality of work is secondary, the key element is the posted price. As long as some high level “managers” find it a good way of advancing their career by showing big “savings” on PPT presentations, I'm afraid we'll see more and more of this. The consulting firms (BCG, Deloitte, you name it) are their accomplices.

MSP is Managed Service Provider, just another way to say contractor company.

@uyf+1ez46Q4K Quest handles a wide variety of work for Xom. Like most MSPs ,if they don’t have the needed skills in house, they just headhunt the local India market to locate the skills needed. My understanding is there are roughly 500 people at Quest working for XOM.

Quest provides lots of services? I didn't know that, I thought they were just engineering drawing service provider. I know all our engineering drawing is now outsourced to them.
