Thread regarding HCSC (Health Care Service Corporation) layoffs

Something is wrong with the severance!

I am getting only 12 weeks of severance for 23 years of work. The 12 weeks basically add up to my salary for the remainder of the year. No f..king appreciation for my years of service! I am talking to a lawyer before signing this!

Medical and dental good until Halloween. No more contributions to HSA.

I thought I read we should get 2 weeks for every year. So I thought I should be getting 46 weeks of severance pay. Not 12 or 3 months!

I am definitely one upset former employee who feels completely disrespected and given no empathy from HCSC!

@tz Please keep us posted if you get a lawyer, and if you are able to negotiate more severance.

@OP Ask HR for a copy of the severance policy.

@tv I have no idea. I was ten weeks short, if the two week calculation is really a thing. When I had friends laid off around that 2019/2020 time, I recall them getting around a month per year vs the two weeks. Have talked to two attorneys whose intake people feel I have a case - going to try one more and just make sure before I drop the $$ - but ideally HCSC would respond and just give me what I asked for. I've been dealing with cancer so this is not exactly a time I feel like job hunting, or dragging out some court case.

@p4 how was your severance calculated? Is anyone negotiating are we allowed too. I am really bummed about the Wellness days as I was waiting to roll them over for a sick family member visit in January

@p3 Well I was laid off and that's not what I received, so it's interesting that you think you know it all...

The severance package definitely allots for 2 weeks of pay for every year of service, minimum of 8 weeks and a maximum of 30 weeks for exempt staff. Anyone saying anything otherwise is misguided.

Grasses aren't greener. HCSC is just fully caught up now with how publicly traded health plans treat their employees. Stripping benefits and constantly laying off. Minus any stock purchase program for employees to save since they are now a wannabee public trade business practice company minus any stock plan lol

I heard there is a published severance document but I haven’t been able to find it on The Hub. Does anyone know if this is true?

@a2 correct, and I'm also not obligated to give a f--k about my job and put in any effort in order to collect a paycheck. Bare minimum from now on.

@a6 they most definitely did give a year in severance before.

Were you former Cigna or legacy HCSC? I thought former Cigna were guaranteed 2 weeks for every year?

Nope @a8 is right. It was over a year.

@a6 Unless you are C level. And if you’re CEO and totally sc--w up a company, then you get a golden parachute.

nothing is guaranteed... but that doeant mean companies should NOT act with kindness and decency.

HCSC use to act with kindness and decency... but obviously that is slowly changing.

Since when has severance been guaranteed at HCSC? Unless it's in your employment contract, which many of us don't have, severance agreements are completely discretionary.

I think the riff arround 2012, people had a ton of weeks. I think some even close to 1 year. Perhaps I'm forgetting things, but it was really great for the employees. Hcsc was a different company then. Hcsc seemed to care more then.

was it close to 1 year including the paid out PTO? I cannot remember. But it was definitely something that helped the riffed employees.

Let this be a lesson to all you youngsters, don't stick around at a job for a quarter of a century and expect them to do right by you. Job hopping is the only way you can expect to get paid what you deserve.

Realistically I don't think any company would give nearly a year's worth of severance pay. I've never heard of any severance package longer than 6 months and that is in the tech industry, not an antiquated one like insurance.

That is terrible and should be a warning to those not yet layed off. Your hard work and experience means nothing to HCSC. Do the minimum while looking for another job.

Best of luck to you and know there are many employees who sympathize with you and are pi---d off by their inane actions this week.

Please remember, they’re not obligated to give you anything. You can lose your job for no reason at any time with no recompense. God bless the USA!
