Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Trump changes to H1B process….

Proponents of these changes argue that they will protect American workers by preventing the H-1B program from being used as a source of cheap labor and discouraging the replacement of U.S. citizens.

I think it’s long overdue and support changes.

Thoughts?

@vx it’s not just the h1-bs, it’s also the h4 dependent visa holders who are taking away our jobs

One reason they hire "contractors" is because they can cheap out on benefits while one or two middleman can take a significant cut of the salary and give peanuts to the employee. How do I know? I am one of the employee. I can feel your frustration.

If employees are H1B, just legislate that they cant work in metropolitan areas greater than 150K pop. You reduce urban housing pressure, increase rural economies, and insure you dont make concentrations of foreigners.

How much side money do managers make on these contracts for people they know creating jobs that are tailored specifically to the foreign applicant? 21st century mafioso behaviors.

@sf First, this article is 3 years old. Second, if it's true, and we have a surplus of STEM, CS and Engineering grads, why are H1B's being hired?

Why? Because they can be used and abused like indentured servants at 75% of the cost of an American worker.

It’s not the H1B program. It’s the US’s horrible education system. If we put more resources into teaching our students Math, Science, Engineering and Tech (in addition to traditional subjects) from a young age, they would be able to compete and fill those jobs as adults. Instead, no one wants to pay taxes to fund a well run education system. Learn MATH for your country. It’s not someone else’s fault!

End all immigration - legal and illegal - until we figure out what the he-l is going on in this country.

@ak Dont trot out that tired old argument. Sprint was circling the drain when T-Mo reached our and acquired the assets it could use from that shambling carcass. Just look at all the Data Centers and Business units that have been offloaded. The Spectrum and Overland park locations were the only remaining value.

The problem with H1B is that they're not brought in to fill a specific opening by their Indian buddies. They create a job description for that person's resume and then say nobody else in the US can do the job.

It's not about hiring experts. It's about hiring indentured servants who are slaves until they get their green card.

The H1B program isn’t truly a source of cheap labor. It’s a highly regulated and closely monitored process in the US. In fact, many H1B members receive pay comparable to, or in some cases greater than, their domestic counterparts, depending on the role and expertise.

That said, GCC are often established to achieve cost efficiencies, typically serving as lower cost support. This appears to be the route Arvind and Jeff are pursuing, epically with the involvement of several of their former FIS colleagues. Raising valid concerns.

For example, visiting multiple cities across Costa Rica and India wipe already having predetermined hires and locations sent reflect a transparent or thorough process. One individual (Vikaz) reportedly received an offer prior to the trip to India even taking place in July. It feels reminiscent of how Marcus suddenly brought in WillowTree for mobile development (he was their paid Board member)… conflict of interest. An arrangement that finally ended is catastrophic with T-Mobile.

Trump also allowed the T-Mobile and Sprint Merger to happen - if you trust him, you’re the problem
