Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Career Expo Week!

What does everyone think of this ridiculous week of career expo training? My only goal at this point is to not lose my job - forget about all of this BS!

It’s just more endless admin. I haven’t had a raise in over 3 1/2 years. How do I get a raise? That’s all I care about.

Answer: you don't

@s1 if you want to raise and also develop your career, feel appreciated and save your dignity, you need to change a job. That’s what I have done and that was the best decision.

@s1 I suspect you'll need to change your employer.

Lots of corporate debt and capital expenditure. No money for pay increases, bonuses or promotions.

However, our people are our most important asset and thank you for your service

Considering number of times "Manager" word was taken, seems HR thinks it is for someone who is good for nothing and does not want to encourage more to think to graduate to that role.

@km yeaaah, it’s similar like to say „journey” instead of „get out”. They are really getting more and more funny in their creativity how to lay off the employees and wish them „bon voyage” on goodbye.

I heard that senior management no longer uses the term "RIF" or "layoff". Instead they now only refer to "bohica initiatives", e.g., "January initiative", "Q3 initiative", etc, because the word "initiative" has more positive connotations than either "reduction" or "layoff".

One can easily infer that this change in semantics came directly from HR.

It's rather a "busted flush" when it's unlikely there will be promotions, bonus payments or any pay rises.

Do more ... for less ... that's the career development initiative.

@cs It's not a career when with no warning you are summoned to a zoom or phone meeting and told you are no longer an employee. You have a "job". You are no different than a laborer who assembles widgets.

Take away? Live far below your means, avoid debt like the plague and save as much as you can. Keeping skills up to date is helpful, but once you reach "the age" you will find that replacing the job will become more and more difficult, so be ready to retire early.

Expo seemed like each of the speakers were preparing for their own next job rather than helping other folks.

Gaslighting confirmed the best strategy is to Rest and Vest.

Career? What the he-l do they mean „career” there”?! When I was working there, after the year my backlog was extended 200% comparing to the previous year (some of my teammates left and hiring was frozen). On the annual review I received opinion from my mngr that my performance could be better - he was only able to notice that tasks completion extended in time, but ignored the fact that I was overloaded and worked faster BECAUSE of getting MORE TASKS. It was to frustrating to stay there any longer. No raises, low payment, no skills development.

confused and dazed as the folks in the webinar are stone faced as ai generated images. They are saying the stuff thats already there and everyone knew 95% of the content. The zest is that at this point oracle management doesn't' t know what to sell anymore.

Ok let’s post the best one liners from the call

“We really appreciate all the hard work you do”

“It’s hard to find time”

I found my joy in a September 2025 phone call, and a portfolio that has gone up over 300k since then. Who needs work?

@a6 these recent "career" sessions are some 10/10 level corporate gaslighting.

Imagine that, truth as humor! LMAO!!

In Limerick town, folks felt so low,
As the Shannon began to o'erflow.
They were sitting ducks,
With terrible lucks,
Watching their gardens all go!.

My past performance reviews speak for themselves. I have historically been a high performer. The current environment has made me give up. Nothing to be gained. I feel like a sitting duck

are you somehow reading my thoughts? <3

I also need to go out , I just want to take the time to find something instead of just jumping into the pool of unemployment (with a family + mortgage I need to wait a bit more)

But did you find your joy? Remember - it's not about your compensation, your title or your specific role - it's about finding your joy! I really couldn't tell if they were real people or AI generated - considering how robotic they were, I'm going to stick to AI...

@a4 being an IC vs M should not be an issue. You don't have to manage to be a leader. The issue is not compensating and promoting.

All brown bag sessions, orielly, Coursera, hcm marketplace, certification, training, hackathon - almost every employee already tried and have their presence.

I want LE’s role or CM’s role. ;)

This is happening in other companies too. Roles are getting changed and projects are balanced. New dev and ai roles are introduced and other titles diminish. Nevertheless you get same salary. Useless discussion unless you plan to move to different business area like digital marketing, finance inside Oracle. Everyone has already filled their hcm profile. What did they do till date ?
Another problem is if you said you are not interested in current work, you could be possible target for layoffs. Oracle still has several internal transfer rules preventing from lateral promotions, etc

@OP this is some sort of bizarre dystopian reality. There is absolutely zero potential for growth as an IC or Manager on my team. No matter what I do there is zero opportunity for compensation increase. Personally I am checked out and praying to be RIF. These people have to be bots. I feel like they are saying it is our fault for not doing all of these steps and that is the reason so many of us are stagnated. My past performance reviews speak for themselves. I have historically been a high performer. The current environment has made me give up. Nothing to be gained. I feel like a sitting duck.
