Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

This is bordering on abuse now

The company really needs to make decisions and fast. People are worried/scared and unsure. Not to mention the lack of desire to actually “work”. They have had a year to figure this out. The layoff should be completed no later than 2 weeks after the closing of the EOI window. Time to fast track for the sake of employees mental health.

@15c Best synopsis I have seen on here ". . . . .will forever shrink in the human labour department".

Very true, get used to it or get out while the getting is good. I am going to roll the dice and hope I can survive here.

@r9 well this is true. You can control the things in your own life. However a lot of people have been here for more than a decade and have close relationships with plenty of people that would suffer immensely from being laid off. A lot of the worry might stem from that also.
It might be an American oil company but it is global. Some of us have empathy and compassion for people other than themselves.

But you are correct though focus on finding another job because this company will forever shrink in the human labour department. The rest that remain you’ll be training your replacements and have no idea you are.

@12d You should do some level of proof reading on your posts if your typing doesn't match your thoughts.

The one year experience workforce from Boston consultants we have doing this work is still playing dice on who to fire and keep from their mansions. Eh probability is about the same as managers that did the current decisions and they are still going to be in charge. Even though they allowed it all but they did a great job by RL!

Are there going to be layoffs?

Abuse?! Collecting a paycheck for a year to look for another job is far from abuse.

Cutting people sooner would mean faster savings. Yet some of you still want to take it personally thinking the company dr-g it out intentionally.

People! have some compassion.. it is hard to spend a whole year in uncertainty, but I see the positives about having time to plan or look for another job, etc. However, that’s not the reason why this is taking so long.. it wasn’t because they wanted to give employees “time to plan”, It is simply because they don’t care about the employees mental health.

Nobody cares if you’re worried or scared. Now get back to “work” and quit posting on the internet.

This isn't torture. Go look at CVX is doing. Different rounds, etc. That's a cluster f.

Have you tried EAP? Or the “Are you Okay” programs? They’ve been useful tools after the insanely low 120% VCIP. I haven’t heard voices in months since they offered those incredible resources.

I am sorry that you feel abused.
Typically people who get fired with little warning and time to prepare feel sc--wed over.
You are entitled to feel abused by having too much time to look for another job

First week of November

Giving months to prepare allows people to get their finances in order, maybe even find a new job one comes along.

2 weeks notice and you'd have a disordered hand-off of work in progress, plus you'd be sc--wing over a lot of people unprepared for a sudden layoff.

Gotta think the WARN notices go out next week around town hall day?

Warn notices haven't been sent out. Layoffs can't happen until 60 days after that. I understand the frustration and feel somewhat the same, but they did say November - so that's the timeline.
