Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

SAFE?

Been very quite, but Team meeting this week was very strange. Anyone else feeling the tension?

Hinting to boss to put me on severance list. Being careful to not allow them to say “I accept your resignation.”

Bank would be stupid to pip or fire me. I know lots of things. They need NDA and pay me handsomely for my silence.

I’m in complete control and am wealthy.

I plan on doing my job and not going above and beyond. I refuse to let this job drive me to an early grave. That's all this place is - a job, not a career, not a place for advancement, or as a highly desirable employer. It's a place to shelter until the job market improves.

The writing has been on the wall for over a year, and even longer but at least since RTO was announced and the sh-tshow that followed. Plan in the good times to prepare for the lean times.

Stressing about your job security at USB solves nothing. You could be a rockstar performer and hit all the checkmarks for meeting and exceeding expectations and still be shown the door. You could also be a middling performer and get cut. If they want you out, you're out.

My point is that you are a line item on an Excel spreadsheet. Companies will show you no loyalty, therefore you owe them none. You're trading your labor and/or service for pay - that's it.

Have your plan B, C, D, or whatever in place for when USB does the inevitable (makes things considerably worse for its customers, employees, vendors, regulators, etc). Stay ready so you don't have to get ready. Godspeed to us all and I hope everyone has a happy and peaceful holiday season.

First quarter of ‘26 is going to be a bloodbath.

Yes. Lots of tension and anxiety coming from my formerly cool headed manager during our team call. I am praying to the frickin’ gods I get a job I’m currently interviewing for so that I can be out of this nightmare company by the new year. At this point I’m personally begging this company to lay me off and put me out of my misery.

Certainly getting that “calm before the storm” vibes. Something’s up for sure …

Very nervous for annual reviews. Got told to do a great job writing them up this year when normally they didn’t care.

I sense the doom and gloom as well. We’re entering a dark time. Expecting many employees to have “does not meet expectations” on their reviews in order to build cases for PIPs.
