Thread regarding 3M layoffs

I've decided it's time for me to move on

After a lot of thinking, I've accepted an offer from a new company. It was tough, but the layoffs and lack of any real path forward here made the choice clearer. I'm really looking forward to a fresh start where I can actually focus on doing good work. I wish everyone the very best.

Best wishes to you and all others who are starting new journeys, both voluntarily and involuntarily. I am not there yet, but know my day will come as I am not blind to the writing on the way. You all provide hope to those of us who are in the wings waiting for our turn to exit stage left.

@ph there are many options if you try. Use Linked in and add a tab open to work that only recruiters could see. There are companies who are planning to hire 10,000 people next year. So many companies are hiring. Pop your head out of the 3M negative and bureaucratic world. You will find many ways.

Look anyway. Make contacts. Go to whatever professional networking events you can. Keep in contact with your 3Mer friends who are already gone. Don't wait until you need a reference to contact those people.

Also, you don't need six offers, just one decent one. When the economy picks up, you don't want to be left behind the people who DID spend this time laying groundwork.

I would love to move on, but they're aren't a lot of options out there right now.

Just keeping my head down until the economy picks back up.

I am a bit over a year gone. While my new, large Fortune 500 employer has its issues I can say I am happier. Less stupid stress, a bit more rewarding intellectually. Having worked for 3 large corporations now all I can say is they all are the same and different. But 3M more so!

Well done for moving on. You will find life again outside 3M

@e6 I worked in other large companies and 3M wins the prize for nepotism and cronyism. For this reason, 3M has a large number of incompetent and poor leaders.

3M went from being the place to work in East Metro in the 80s and 90s and even during Buckley in late 00s. To being a Soviet style psyops operation, designed to think you should be grateful to be working at The Center even after losing your LTI and other perks.

BB is only getting started. Way until you see how many 1s and 2s get dished out to otherwise productive and loyal employees. Many who will leave with no more than 26 weeks of pay and expensive Cobra. While Tireman and Moni got several million to leave the Titanic

It feels great when actually you see how the new company praises you. I have the experience. 3M is really good at training but doesn’t do a good job utilizing the talent due to nepotism and cronyism especially in R&D. Wish you the best!!!

I have never seen so many new starts , up sticks and leave after several weeks or months. The attrition rate is really scary, this company was a job for life back in the day, a sad state, wasted training on people, albeit the training is sub standard.
