The layoffs have started again. A colleague from marketing was let go today. Highly visible guy on social media as well.

A marketing guy being loud on social media ? Ground breaking.
@q1 No, it's really true. A manager can only make one team member exceptional. It gets passed around on my team to the top players; so if you get it once, you can coast for the next 3-4 years, because it doesn't matter how good you are; you ain't gettn it again for at least that many years.
Such a deceitful, immoral, incompetant leadership team.
@j8 you are spot on. I remember (i recently quit) my annual review was “congrats you successfully met the company requirements” even tho i was in front of assisting multi million dollar sales and without my knowledge they would have fallen on their face. Pffft. So glad i am not there anymore.
One mgr told me this was due to them only being allowed to give one team member a great review. Not sure if i buy that nonsense.
@hn There's nothing stopping them to my (very limited) knowledge. The way the times have been communicated are:
We ICs have our review done by May
Managers finish their end by June
The sit down can be as late as sept
If it's going to be a termination/PIP that talk should be happening sooner rather than later, and may be close to layoff time if it does happen.
If they're opting for a silent layoff list of 1-2s instead, to slowly chip away at, their timetable doesn't inherently stop them. Just means the sooner you get your sit down the better. That way no matter where you are you can plan from there.
If you get late reviews, or get skipped that's a red flag though.
@j8 , didn't the HR team got off shore to Philippines and then had a massive layoff as well. Do note, HR who has been trolling the site. You have learned from this site and know the underhand tactics being employed. You are also not as safe as you think. Feel free to join us in the site when you are layoff too.
The rating system serves as a mechanism to prepare for workforce reductions. VPs and directors are mandated to meet specific percentage targets. This not only provides a justification for withholding salary increases and reducing bonuses, but it also establishes a designated pool of candidates for future layoff initiatives. It sounds highly strategic, and indeed it is. The company’s most refined asset is arguably its HR team, which possesses extensive experience and a complete mastery of workforce reduction methodologies.
The performance ratings process will only be fully completed by July or august because manager-level ratings are still pending and need to be discussed with employees. I don’t think these ratings will be factored into any potential upcoming layoffs.
Layoffs in renewals and engineering yesterday. Canada.
And we just got an email that says you have to get your performance reviews done early.
I wonder how many people will be forced into the need improvement category, so they can justify firing them.
Can confirm, I know someone in based in Canada let go on Tuesday
@dc OT, the silent ki-ler
@cb you don't remember correctly. In fact the number one day in March of this year was 22172
@cb Do you live in a memory care unit?
@cb Always do, like clockwork. Do they have to do regular layoffs? Probably not if ELT had a legit strategy for improving things long term. Since they don't and since they run OT like a PE 'maximizing profit' exercise every quarter, layoffs are their only available lever. Aside from selling bits off, but that apparently isn't going well.
Expenses go down == stonk go up!
Cant argue with that wisdom /s
If I remember correctly, this number is a bit lower than a year ago. Did this company really have layoffs?
hmmm
CEO currently has 21684 reports. We'll see how that moves over then next few weeks.
