Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

LinkedIn is exhausting

I had to reactivate my account because recruiters kept asking for it, but the constant posts about nights out, people partying with coworkers, and random personal photos feel so unprofessional. Does anyone actually use this platform to help others find real work? It feels more like a social feed than a job tool most days.

@14v to find a new job use LinkedIn as a contact source but network outside of the tool. Applying for jobs on LinkedIn and getting recommendations there is useless unless a recruiter contacts you.

Linkedin is necessary garbage. It used to be good but now has turned into a sterile version of FB. Everyone posts "nice" stuff as well as fluff posts. At least on FB people post what they mean. Not saying FB is any better.

@a4 It has indeed become FB2.
Yet in terms of OT, I would say it's a sure bet that people are ratting-out those who still work for the company but who have set their profile to show "OpenToWork".

@pt Who cares if someone at OT sees it or not?

@pt It doesn't matter. You're either on the layoff list, or you're not.

I’m still at OT, but trying to crawl my way out of it.
If you post on LinkedIn that you’re open to work but mark it just for recruiters, does OT HR see that as well?

Treat it as a mechanism for connecting with previous co-workers and reaching out. ore of an investigation tool. Above, all, don't interact with the randos. That way lies madness.

@a3 Everyone active on linkedin seems like a "CEO", or a corporate simp quiet-bragging about their dedication, wisdom or brilliant insights.

It is nauseating.

It is facebook for corporate simps.

Yeah, too many people insist on using it as a Facebook2 with politics, partying, and religious posts. Then, you have the content generators who expound about all their corpo-wisdom and business hustle. It's a den of delusional degenerates.

But, I don't use it for browsing anything except maybe looking up a company in which I'm interested. It did help me land a job after my layoff a few years ago. If you ignore the folks who try to use it as a social network or who try to craft some kind of a business persona, it's useful for getting in touch with recruiters or for making yourself available to them.

It’s a cesspit for politically correct “look at me” sycophants.

Sadly, it is still the number one domain for those looking for a new job.
