Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

California layoff healthcare coverage?

Palo Alto employee here. Will get notified on Dec and last day 60 days later. Question: What kind of continuing healthcare coverage does Broadcom offer during the severance period? Continuing the existing plan for a period of time?

And I assume after that, the option to purchase Cobra coverage?

Whoever thinks AI will replace jobs at AVGO is delusional, e.g. HR. There simply is no need for any HR role, human or otherwise. Much more cost effective that way. Need some dental work? Hock will tell you to eat cake.

@188 Got laid off in May, California. Warn kept salary going for 2 months. Health insurance coverage lasted thru October, 5 months after layoff. Broadcom never communicated that extended health benefit to me in writing ahead of time I just experienced it. Your mileage may vary. HR was not responsive about anything regarding benefits. My manager told me I was laid off, and then HR crickets.

If you resign, you get a rock. You can use it to bash your head in after you get sick. HT approved.

If you resign, healthcare stops end of that month. If you are severed, same thing unless the company decides as part of your sev package that they'll pay 3 months (or 1 or none). It also varies by country and state. So the real answer is: it depends what they are giving you in your out package, which should be outlined in your letter.

Just ask Hock.

If you manage to speak to him, tell him I said to fúck off, but say it nicely.

After your last day in December, Bcom pays the COBRA for 3 more months, and after the end of the 3 months. you pay your COBRA using the Alight worklife portal.

@n8 You're not wrong. Like the new parental trend of FAFO (F-ck Around and Find Out), the culture at BRCM is very much FOY = Figure it Out Yourself! Here is terrible portal of a pile of info to sift through and not find, or ask your clueless manager if you must. They literally say like a slogan "If you can't figure it out, you are probably not smart enough to be Broadcom material" no kidding. I can therefore see why folks come here to ask ?s

Coverage holds good until end of the month of you on payroll and then cobra kicks in for 3 months. Same health coverage will be given in the cobra with an option of buying the plan if you want to continue after 3 months free period ends.

Your coverage continues until your last official day of employment, whether you are given notice/warning before that last day or not... then it's done as of that date and you can elect high-cost COBRA to continue it for months after.
