@sy brown nosers are people (not an ethnicity) referring to yes men or people who will tell the person in power whatever they want to hear or give them compliments. They have no skills and aren’t doing the things you said. They are pushing that work off to people who are willing to go above and beyond.

I am sure there are many but just pointed couple for you.

@sa I wish they would get it over with. Wondering about the future every day is exhausting. Especially when over the years you’ve seen great employees get the axe and cr-ppy brown nosers are kept.

It depends. Some managers (or their manager) choose who gets cut. HR asks for 30-60 days to get a package created, so they usually know then. Lately that's changed at times, such as April 2025, when higher level leadership cut many people without the direct manager knowing until the day of. But your manager likely knows and no they can't say anything about it without risking their own job.

@na Sounds like it includes anyone under 55

Are the JE meetings scheduled in advance, even by a few days, or are they the day of/moments before it's done?

@n6 The list of people who will be eliminated on 1/29 in the mass layoffs was decided weeks ago. It is independent of the voluntary retirement (VRP) process. You’d think Cigna would want to know who took the latest VRP first BEFORE deciding on how many positions to eliminate and which specific people, but no.

This is just a knee-je-k mass cutting exercise with no forethought or long term strategy. It’s all about cutting expenses so we can hit our short term earnings numbers and artificially increase the stock price. But this company is scr*wed in the long term.

@OP I heard from a Director friend that... the last week in Jan is where there will be some sort of formulation of a resource list ranking.... in case not enough people took the VRP to know a pecking order of who will get cut first. Then I heard there will be cuts on 2/19 but rumors are swirling so we will have to wait! I think there will definitely be cuts but how many, who knows.

@j8 1/29 is the date for huge layoffs. The VRP is a separate process.

@j8 Decisions on VRP were to be in by the 23rd.

Are there anyone from Evernorth Network Solutions here?

@h8 I know what you mean, you can tell some are just bleeding Cigna money and have delivered nothing useful in the last decade and just brought their network over and have never delivered a substantive digital project before.

No wonder HIH is taking over this part of Digital. Now I am not surprised at all.

Any rumors about Digital? Lots of useless people there from UHC and DaVita Dialysis that infested Cigna.

Our drm in UW let us know that even though we’re bringing on some new UWs, they are not backfilling spots if someone leaves. We struggle to keep people in UW anyway.

@dn whenever the manager found out doesn’t excuse them from dropping the call and completing abandoning the team with no communication. That is unacceptable. Being a manager isn’t easy and has its ugly moments (like JE) but you have to deal with the cr-p side of the job.

@dn thank you for sharing your story! I’m sorry you had to make so important decisions without input from your managers. My previous company regularly asked us updated our profiles, achievements,… mid year and year end reviews. Maybe you can use those information to help your decisions for those people you are unfamiliar with

@dp 17 people. So about 15%. I’m sick over it. I feel so bad for the people who are impacted because of Cigna’s poor management and have no idea how our team is going to function since we’re already down 7 positions.

@dn how many in your 120 person org did you have to let go?

@de To be fair, most managers will find out that people who report to them are being laid off the same morning. The JE decisions are primarily being made at the band 6+ level and will not be disclosed to the employees’ direct managers until the day of the layoff (at least for 1/29). So I’m sure a lot of the managers will also be in shock and not know what to say to their people who are impacted.

I’m a band 6 and was told by HR that I can NOT talk to my managers about who is being laid off. So I had to decide who in my org is getting laid off without ANY input from my managers who actually know the individual people and job functions better. I have 120+ people in my org and don’t really know some of the people a couple layers down. It’s insane and many bad, misinformed decisions are being made across the company because of this stupid approach Cigna is taking. I have lost all respect for this company after 14 years. I’m done with this and as soon as my bonus is paid I’m beginning my job search. Good luck everyone.

After you’re notified by hr and they drop from the call, your manager if suppose to stay on the call. Our team’s manager immediately dropped the call. Manager didn’t talk to any of us and immediately put on out of office. Hope karma dumps all it has on that mgr forever, no sympathy for that.

My manager def knew at least two weeks before that I know of. I know because your manager gets everyone’s severance in a email. Your manager will send it to your personal email after you’re notified. My id--t manager forwarded the email and didn’t remove the info that showed hr sending it to them. Date and time she got. Two whole weeks before and mgr still carried out 1x1s like everything was all good. 🤬 they had to know longer than those two weeks for sure.

In most cases they know a couple months in advance.

@a4 You are confusing the voluntary retirement program (VRP) with the scheduled layoffs. It’s inconsistent as to which managers know who will be laid off on 1/29. Some already know the names and some don’t. And some of the managers who do know will end up being laid off themselves after conducting the layoff discussions with impacted employees. Ouch.
This company is ONLY about making money for the shareholders despite the feel-good language from Cordani about caring about “the people we serve.”
