Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

LinkedIn culture is something else

The performative posts from people who still have jobs are getting exhausting. All that humble bragging and inspirational garbage while so many of us are struggling to find work. It feels like a highlight reel from people who either got lucky or won't admit how bad things really are. Hard to scroll through it without rolling my eyes these days.

@OP Agreed, our VP in REF posts all about world travel to O locations on Linkedin, this person only flies first class, nice way to spend Oracles money… Has no temperature to read the room. Then turns around to say we the small folks need to find the cheapest means of travel.. AH well, not much I/we can do.

@OP I love the exit posts by people who were RIF'd from their jobs. They thank their former company for the opportunity, what they learned and tag their former colleagues and bosses. Newsflash, that boss you're thanking put you on the RIF list. I will never understand that posts whatsoever. They aren't useful except for my entertainment.

@g5, most of the jobs I apply for from Linkedin are links to the customer's site.

Rif!d from Oracle in Sept, just got a new gig. LinkedIn is nauseating, overrun with self promoting blowhards, I hate it. But it’s a necessary evil.

Others saying direct apply are spot on. I think LinkedIn job alerts are good to get initial leads. Whenever possible, apply directly on the employer site.

Hang in there.

Loving these posts about LinkedIn being Facebook for professionals needing validation. So thankful im not alone in seeing people who seem to be unemployed one day and experts with their first entry level gig.

I’m currently looking for a job. I saw someone say they apply directly to company sites. Does anyone use any job boards at all? You have me rethinking my app strategy and that’s great.

Thank you!

Honest take: spending energy resenting people who are posting wins is a losing strategy. LinkedIn is one more tool, the more you use right now the better.
The job market is tough now and nobody's denying that. But the people who come out ahead of you aren't the ones curating a cynical feed, they're the ones using that same doom scrolling time to build a skill, reach out to one new contact, or ship one new AI project.
Successful people aren't your competition. They're a free masterclass. Watch what they do, steal the framework, ask them guidance and adapt it to your situation.
Don't be a hater. Don't be a spectator. Be a builder.
The highlight reel can either make you bitter or make you better. That's genuinely a choice. Focus on your lane. The rest takes care of itself.

You must not be "thought leaders", or you would grok that you have to be a "thought leader" to post there. LOL

I thought LinkedIn was dead? It’s like facebook showing how great your marriage is and then BAM divorce. Stay away from LinkedIn

Linkedin now is a toxic place, full of brown nosers or weak skilled people who share their “successfull” post about something what is really easy to achieve. I have an account there but I never post, now rarely scroll, the content is not worthy to pay the attention, it has no value. And also browsing the O’ brown nosers posts is a bit funny and not real.

I have to use LinkedIn, that's how I found last of my two jobs.
However, I never posted anything there, nor reacted to anything.
I do not participate in Social Media and I am disgusted I am de-fecto forced to use LinkedIn and disclose my PII data there.

I never used LinkedIn. It’s creepy. Like I don’t want people knowing my whole work circle. Also job posting on there are 99% bs. I just apply directly to companies career pages. I’ve never used job boards. Those sites will just send you spam, charge you fees and drop your resume in a “No” bucket for many companies. Your resume is more likely to get in the eyes of recruiters and hiring managers if you apply directly.
Also I agree- there is a ton of fakeness try-hard content on LinkedIn.

I disabled my LinkedIn account purely for this reason, I just could not believe what people were spouting, like what happened to you where you feel the need to post this stuff…unless they really believe it!!
