Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Triple Crown

I'm hearing about a new effort called Triple Crown that ETC is pushing, and it sounds like a mess. Will anything good come of this?

I'd like a Triple crown right about now. With a twist of lemon!

such a dumb name to begin with. ironic thing is that chevron is the first to jump on this, calling it a competitive advantage. it'll be some other company that actually just buys it from schlumberger. then when our executives start to ask what are we doing, somebody will point to the fact that we are actually the first to be in it, and everyone gets a pat on the back even though it benefits no business units.

ask the new GOM VP if he still thinks triple crown is worth the investment that he started.

Microsoft and Schlumberger just announced their partnership to make "Triple Crown" available for the whole industry. ANYBODY can buy whatever c––p product they're selling. And guess what? JG and KC and our old useless CTO told all of us that this thing was revolutionary and will change how Chevron works. It will differentiate us from the others and help us win in any environment. How is that waste of money going? Microsoft and Schlumberger takes our investments, makes it available for everyone in the industry, and then sell it back to us. I would say that is such a scam, but our executives were too d––b to know it.

Chevron tore me a new one when they triple crowned me. No more job, no more money, no more wife. Triple Crowned, I say.

microsoft and schlumberger are jerking chevron around, and there isn't enough technical knowledge at the top to stop it and steer it in the right direction.

how's triple crown going? laid off all these people just to move petrel into the cloud? why did CTC costs go up in 2020 and projected to go up even higher in 2021? is it helping the BUs make more barrels? or is it just increasing our opex because moving to the cloud is good, to do the same things we've always done, except now we have to pay microsoft all that cost for things we were not paying for before? it's incredible that we had to let go of all these people to fulfill this vision that makes no sense.

All of you are clueless. I was feeling pretty stressed out yesterday and went in to my neighborhood bar and asked the bartender to serve me up a Triple Crown. True to his bartending skills, he did just that. Paid my $15 tab and went home.

Yes, good points, and a key for you GO400, even if you have no idea what triple crown is, make sure you indicate that your previous project work was triple crown “enhanced” or at least, if you used your phone to read this, then machine learning informed. LOTS of buzz words is key in this “space”!

@mdqa, let me tell you how triple crown is related to layoffs. There are many absolutely meaningless projects being kept alive by people who now bundle them into triple crown. Triple crown, like many other shiny initiatives - whether it’s DIA or decision making or leading performance or even cute hashtag names like #ImagineIT - all start off as maybe a decent idea. But Chevron being Chevron, it gets fatter and fatter. People equate those as job security. They start to add in projects that have been around for years but have never gotten any support from business units. But now they’re “part of” triple crown or [replace with any important sounding thing here], they’re seen as important and roles will be in the next selection rounds because “it’s triple crown”. Executives in place who do not have any historical context of these things that they’re adding are supporting them very blindly. When you try to revive legacy UWT sh!t and call it triple crown, these business units didn’t use them back then and they won’t use them now. All we are doing is throwing money away at consultants (who also don’t have historical context) because we don’t have anybody who can build this the first time. Same song, different version. Lots of jobs will be saved by having these initiatives...

Is there an area of this site where layoff topics are discussed? This seems like more of a middle school chat room with miscellaneous topics about nothing. I am not an exec or someone in leadership, HR, nor a Russian troll or bot, before you reply. I have a feeling that most would know that already, or are completely clueless.

If you encounter JG in the office and he points to the ground all excited and asks you if that shining quarter on the carpet is yours, I warn you—say nothing and don’t go bending over to pick it up, else you will be Triple Crowned.

Is that when they go from one “Drill” hole to the other in succession. If you only have two “drill” holes you go back to a previous one.

Triple Crown is an important initiative where all of us in the center get down on 2 arms and 1 leg, and JG bones 20-30% of us out the door, while Microsoft and Schlumberger watch and laugh at JG's terrible form. Its an unfortunate example of us getting triple teamed of teams, and not in a good way!!!!

“very highly regarded individuals experienced in this space”.... regarded by whom, for what, in what dimensions of space? I suspect it will end badly because it does not pull in the folks that are professional oil finders. I have seen this many times, lots of high tech invested at the wrong questions: cool graphic interface in front of no meat. Everyone in the project will make fancy PowerPoints claiming unbelievable success and acceleration in workflows ten thousand time over. In reality the system will be a layer of annoying fluff obscuring the path to get the job done. If the “center” wants to make a real difference, focus on data archives and QC, and knowledge retention through documentation... one could call it a library, but that would be much to old “space”.

These are the kind of ideas and arm waving that execs do who have spent their careers far away of the actual oil fields in san ramon or top floor somewhere. These ideas will not add bopd or reduce cost but can enhance a career (or keep it) especially if it pleases MW since it has microsoft in it.

@hun is likely an exec or someone in leadership that is upset at all the posts related to how poorly leadership manages the company. Its all layoff related because it all distracts us from pulling oil out of the ground and selling it.

The triple crown is a program for Chevron employees based on the wisdom of Joe P. Kennedy: "I'm never done with a woman until I've had her three ways."

All you bunch of people complaining about ETC don’t know any better. Triple Crown is led by very highly regarded individuals experienced in this space. They’ll be changing the industry with Triple Crown, the first ever partnership of this sort. Schlumberger brings the expertise with petrotechnical knowledge and Microsoft brings scalable cloud technologies that help us optimise the industry workflows. It is absolutely worth the investment, and you are all just envious of the few people involved who are driving this forward.

No, Triple Crown might be three companies, but two are doing all the work and Chevron is the one paying for it all. Just another silly initiative that will fall short. Microsoft and Schlumberger will milk this one for all it’s worth.

Triple crown is a strategic partnership with Chevron, Microsoft, and Schlumberger for technology development.

It is probably lay-off related long term, because I think the idea is to outsource more IT work, subsurface technical work, and technology development to Sclumberger and Microsoft over time.

Triple CrOwn is three companies working together. I think it is Chevron, AOL and Sears or something like that. Digital marketing of oil online. And little boys pants, half off.
