We all talk a big game online about bad policies and layoffs, but then we just accept it quietly. No one organizes or pushes back in a real way. That's why management keeps doing whatever they want.

@mc yup. Remember the article about that surveillance company that scans all of our emails and chats? Chevron has been using that product. They have been hush hush about it. They are reading everything we type at work
They surveil everyone via AI, so they already have a list and are checking it twice.
Union!!!!!
@OP It’s Texas, and you’re a free person. Like @a9 said, it’s a right-to-work state, and Chevron can dump you at any time. You can leave too - no one is forcing you to show up tomorrow. And yet you will, because you know no other company will pay you so much to do so little. ELT is not stupid - they know the value proposition of Chevron.
Good luck with the white-collar unionizing. You clearly have no idea how many people would ki-l to work at this cushy company as an engineer or whatever it is that you do. Get some perspective.
EOI was the exit path for those that would have acted
I’ve often wondered why we don’t organized a walkout at the corporate office. There’s power in numbers and this company and their policies have proven they don’t give a sh-t about us so why aren’t we doing SOMETHING? What are they going to do? Fire ALL of us?
Did it work for you in California or Chicago? No you got ended up moving here becuase chevron needs keep an eye on those that cuased the problem. Best solution accept your low pay rate or quit? Choice is yours after all DEI should be called delusional expandable interns. Have fun with that even you did it in person you'll be fired right away. Your DEI'S your all bark no bite.
I acted.
I mashed that big, fu-k-off EOI button the moment it became available. And I wasn’t shy about letting my disdain be known in the nearly twelve months it took those mo--ns to complete, from the original announcement through to final days.
Did it make a difference? Fu-k no. But damn it felt good.
What a fu--ing cooked company it’s become, and I was set on being a Chevron lifer, worked hard, didn’t even mind being in the office.
Please sir, may I have another bowl of gruel….
@ah No, posting on this board does not constitute pushing back. You are right. However, posting on this board helps others see how their observations are shared among others in the company. Especially in a company that makes every attempt to control opinions and free thought through constant monitoring tools, open seating, and bootlicking ladder climbing gossipers. Hiring dedicated downvoters to monitor and attempt to skew perceptions and opinions on third party websites is not pushing back nor productive either. You should be more worried about losing your jobs to foreign workers than trying to mobilize action. Texas is a right to work state and they can fire/lay off/reorg your role without legal ramifications. The company you hired on with is no longer here. There are other companies to work for out there. Real actioning is to find another job and leave these mo--ns to find people with experience and knowledge as many of us have done after all the layoffs. You will find there are still good companies out there that respect and take care of their employees. There is no future at Chevron with the current culture and regime.
I pushed back on insanity for 8 of my years there and got tired of beating my head against a brick wall so I EOId and found a better paying job with much better working conditions. Being at Chevron was like being with a narcissistic partner - the only things that actually hurt them is removing yourself from them completely. Best of luck to those still in the trenches, I highly recommend looking elsewhere.
OP
Keyword in your post is “quiet “
The best way to fight back is quietly.
The managers from 1st line through the ELT cannot organize the people into a productive team aligned with a valued purpose.
I have been at Chevron over 20 years and one thing I have noticed is the LT does not want input from the individual contributors. The LT manages to the level above them. They are missing the information at the bottom of how things get done, AI is about measuring data points and then making adjustments based upon facts. Chevron LT does not use the data points they report to adjust decisions.
Lead the charge oh brave one.
Does posting here on a layoff board constitute “pushing back in a real way”?
Texas is a right‑to‑work state, which is corporate‑speak for ‘you have the right to work here until the moment you say something we don’t like.’ At Chevron, exercising your voice is a great way to exercise your résumé. Staying quiet isn’t cowardice, it’s survival.
Agreed. Are you personally doing anything? If so, what? Not challenging you but want to understand your comment.
