Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

it's over

Exec leadership going to Montreal and East Aurora. Looks like they're finally shutting them down. Let's see how many relocation packages they offer.

@1zv I can tell you what the reason wasn't. To shut the campuses down.

It will be a tremendous loss if FP closes! Mostly because Fisher Price exemplified what true toy making was all about. Unfortunately that has not been the case since Mattel purchased them. The rot that is Mattel has over time destroyed FP.
If FP were to close East Aurora will be fine. It is a prosperous town.

It would be a shame to see those two locations close. More so for EA, that town will be a wasteland after losing FP. That campus had a certain magic to it at its peak. There was a special camaraderie that I envied whenever I had to travel across the country to visit as well as the "co-mingling" between departments. It was like a se-y reality show where everyone loved flannel a bit too much.

@1kr what was the reason for their visit then?

Whether today, tomorrow or shortly thereafter, you can always count on a layoff to happen at Mattel. Just be prepared for the inevitable.

@1ek how nice that leadership gets the required time to do their jobs

Not like they do layoffs when executive team is there. Only laid the groundwork

There will be more to come once they execute the plan that was laid out

@149 while I agree with you on most of your points staying in business as an arm of an entity literally has nothing to do with being friendly or not.

Mattel doesn't want to make product anymore. Ynots dream is to license IP.
Let's see how well that goes
Surprised he hasn't been replaced given the performance of the company.
You're all at risk.... Even ES given your high cost structure and unfriendly state to do business in. Wouldn't be surprised if they packed up and moved somewhere else.

@de because there’s no such thing as a “routine leadership visit”. Either they’re letting people go, shaking sh-t up again for the 14th time in 3 years because they made mistakes employees have to pay for, or unfortunately OG is correct. Historically speaking, they never simply show up to integrate in the work or connect with employees. Literally never.

Everything is going to India. Not just IT but all jobs. This is being spearheaded by the CTO that joined a year ago. Everything is breaking being the scenes but we cover it up well enough to keep the the status quo. Revenues won't increase so the only way to keep investors happy is to keep cutting costs.

The offshoring to India is just phase 1. Wait for the layoffs and major budget cuts in phase 2.

EA and Montreal are no longer needed. ES is already offshoring more functions. Much more cost effective to pay workers in Asia/India/Malaysia than NA. Plus you can treat them like sh-t.

Mattel leadership sees no value in NA staff. This will be the demise of Mattel. That's why the stock never stays above $18 in past 20 years.

I hope they don't close the EA campus. It's been there for nearly a century and is a local institution.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think they’re visiting those offices to shut down sites rather than making a routine leadership visit?
