Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Trump Meeting

Trump's White House meeting of oil execs on Friday to discuss Venezuela just showed the massive difference between Exxon and Chevron. For starters, Chevron's CEO didn't bother showing up, which was an absolute disgrace. Second, when the press was admitted into the meeting, Exxon's Darren Woods articulated the Venezuela challenge clearly and articulately, while Chevron's inadequate proxy of Mark Nelson only wanted to thank the Trump administration, not present to the world what was needed.
It just further illustrated that Chevron's leadership is second rate compared to Exxon, who play chess while Chevron tries to learn how to play checkers.

@m9 You seem to have overlooked that there is an oversupply of crude and prices under $60/bbl. VZ heavy crude is more costly to produce and sells at a discount. So, the master strategy for CVX is to bring even more less desirable crude to market? Fat chance.

@b8 CFO is an engineer by background. Makes no difference to your observation (word salad) which is spot on.

What fantasy land is this nonsense OP?! Who already has people and a position in-country?CVX. Who’s ready to bump production by 50%? CVX. Who’s already making $1B+/yr on the existing business? CVX. But XOM is the one playing chess?! GTFO. They have excuses why they can’t / won’t re-enter. We’re way out in front of XOM on this one and should be dancing because of it. They wish they were in our shoes. Point CVX.

@by - agreed ... the latest:

Jan 11 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he might block Exxon Mobil (XOM.N), opens new tab from investing in Venezuela after the oil major's CEO called the country "uninvestable" during a White House meeting last week.

talk about not reading the room, that's darren woods

Woods likely trying to avoid the DJT to Tillerson treatment: “d-mb as a rock” and “lazy as he-l.” Nothing wrong with trying to please the man by showing up.

@OP Actually, the fact that anyone bothered to show up is the real disgrace. They sat through a worthless word salad of bloviating fantasies completely disconnected from reality. A total farce and waste of time.
