Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

Pluto Tv Longevity

Has anyone heard about DE’s plans for Pluto? I’ve seen rumors here that Plutos days may be numbered… but would it make sense to spend all this time and money converging P+ and Pluto to then just ki-l Pluto?

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

If convergence had to do with tech stacks, then even Network Streaming would be part of the conversation as the team is a fraction of the size of P+/Pluto and is a robust streaming platform. The red head step child that lost the war with P+ to begin with, despite punching well above weight

@p5 you're delusional if you think the decision to go with p+'s stack has anything to do with quality and not just because paramount is the parent company and has all the power. not one decision related to convergence has had anything to do with what is best for the technology or the customer, only what is best for the business. and what's best for the business is to cut costs. they don't need pluto employees or technical infrastructure if the product is run on p+'s stack by p+'s people.

@m7 It's profitable because they're not paying for content licensing. Content licensing is being done by Paramount. Pluto's main problem is that it's driven by ad revenue which is already a softening market. Only DTC is profitable because it's consistent re-occuring revenue.

@n1 Pluto may/may not have stronger engineering teams. But the fact that Pluto is getting converged and not the other way around shows which side won. If Pluto had built a better more resilient stack P+ would be merged into Pluto and not the other way.

@d7 Actually, it's quite the opposite. Pluto TV has a much stronger engineering team, and they will take over P+. P+ engineering just can't deliver.

Idk anything specifically, but FAST streaming services like Tubi and Pluto are supposedly more profitable than premium streaming like P+. So I think (or at least I hope) they wouldn’t get rid of it completely.

I could see a world where they do what Amazon did with FreeVee and fold the free options into Paramount +.

Just like the former planet, Pluto TV is going to be no more.

Pretty much everyone is spot on here. It will be folded into p+ in tech and the product.

Pluto is an awful product that barely works.

Unfortunately, most of the Pluto backend and frontend teams will be gone after the convergence.

Pluto's days are numbered if you are a manager. Their teams are getting merged into P+ team. If you exist as a manager your role is duplicated to a P+ manager.

Pluto is not going anywhere. The backend and possibly some UI will be integrated with Paramount +
