I haven’t. And God knows what that means. Judging from the rumors, relocation offers seem to be just an easy, cost-free way to push people out in most cases. I mean, who would uproot their life for a job when job security is practically an ancient concept? I really hope this gets clarified soon. Honestly, I’d rather face losing the job than deal with this confusion and anxiety dragging on.

@r6 "When you aren’t on the floor, you don’t have the ability to peek over your cube wall and say “hey x, give me your thoughts on…”. There are pros/cons to all of that, yeah, but there are definitely OB roles that make more sense in person than not."
This! As someone who started during pandemic, onboarded virtually - I struggled as an L4, and had a hard time figuring things out on my own. I didn't have access to someone nearby who I could ask if they had time to assist. Now I was dependent on checking if someone's Slack light was on (prior to Skype messenger). And came to find out the hard way that actually asking questions at TGT is sometimes frowned upon. You have to "find a safe person" to ask "d-mb questions". That's how it was poised to me by a "leader".
This company is so damn phony for the most part with all the heart emojis floating around during virtual ATMs.... you have to be drinking that TGT Kool-Aid a lot and have a cult-ish mindset to stay there forever. Not to say there aren't great peers to glean from, but almost always it was someone OUTSIDE of my immediate group. Those within my own team play favorites, and favorites get the praise or promoted despite you busting your a-s; or worse yet... take credit for your ideas and accomplishments. And don't get me started on the gaslighting "You aren't managing your time well". Ummmm, yes I/we are. We are just drowning with rework and last minute changes because "leaders" can't make up their minds... forcing me to work weekends and late nights.
Ok, enough griping for one day.
@ag multiple reasons including the fact that when I work from home I put in MORE hours for Target and am significantly more productive. On top of the fact that I have disabilities and chronic illness that make it significantly more taxing and genuinely take away from my well being, especially when 95% of my work can be done remotely. I’m ok coming in as needed to support the work I do but the mandate is so clearly a control tactic, silent layoffs, protecting their corporate real estate value, and pressure from the Minneapolis business district. All of which I’m not interested in supporting let alone funding through my time and money. Bc yes on top of all the other obvious costs associated with RTO, we also have to pay $10+ a day to park downtime and many of us increased the size of our homes to support the need for a dedicated home office for the last 5 years….
@qy my assumption that some jobs require more real time collaboration for the team to be effective. It makes more sense for the CFT to be in the brand room together working on the next cycle live than it does for everyone to be doing their thing in their little bubble and coming back sporadically. When you aren’t on the floor, you don’t have the ability to peek over your cube wall and say “hey x, give me your thoughts on…”.
There are pros/cons to all of that, yeah, but there are definitely OB roles that make more sense in person than not.
It’s also really hard for junior team members to learn and become effective when they’re not in person because they’re pandemic grads so your L4s are struggling individually and potentially bringing down the team if they don’t have access to mentorship and support from senior peers.
@km Why is anyone being required to RTO? Everyone in Bill’s org is working on product in some fashion. Leadership in that org is toxic, dysfunctional, condescending, untrustworthy and their end goal is outsourcing as many jobs as possible and destroying the integrity of the brand.
@ag I can explain it - the days in the office are filled with potlucks, come in late and leaves early. “Leaders’” fill calendars with “connects” and “GTKY” as they really don’t have anything better to do .
@kc was there justification for WHY those functions were asked to RTO though? Like, are those people working in product or design?
@da except there were many remote people in Bill’s org that were told they had to RTO. Don’t believe anything the C-suite says. The lie for a living.
@e8 Guess I'm done for :E
@av yup, the outspoken ones are the first to go. No room for questioning the way things are done here, it’s ridiculous. I have had similar experiences.
I heard remotes only get relocation if they did not previously live in Minnesota. So if someone was living in MN and then moved to another place during Covid, they would not receive relocation if required to RTO.
Bill’s message to OB overall was pretty clear: RTO doesn’t apply to remote tm’s.
@av what area were you in?
Sounds like we worked under similar people.
I quit and it’s the best thing I ever did. I had super high hopes working at Target. I realized I was too honest and outspoken to improve things and essentially became non promotable. I heard my SD promoted someone they had a crush on which was gross. This employee was Target material: questions nothing and drinks the kool aid. With that type of a business model it’s no wonder Target is struggling. There’s a culture of silently punishing employees for speaking up. This is not ok! For those who are struggling like I did, move on if you can. It’s a shame that opportunities are tough to find right now.
@ag,
Yeah commuting to Minneapolis from
Denver to Seattle a few days a week is easy… what a genius you are.
If anyone can explain the kicking and screaming about return to office is about please do.
A day or 2 or 3 a week is not a big deal. Welcome to work!
Unless you are taking care of toddlers, dogs or working 2 jobs of course.
