Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Bonus meeting

If out on maternity leave is your manager required to connect with you to communicate bonus numbers before the payout? Has anyone experienced a similar scenario?

@kk that is horrible but I am not surprised one bit. Shameful, but I can see leadership using your bonus to pass along to their friends. Your bonus dollars were factored into the budget.

When I was on disability after gallbladder surgery my manager contacted me to give me my numbers. The amount would be prorated depending on months worked. I was only out a few weeks so it didn’t affect me much but if you are out let’s say 5 months during 2025 your bonus amount would be affected. It also all depends on your manager, team and your value to your team. Some of the comments on this thread are super negative, ignore them everyone’s situation is unique. Good luck!

@m9 I don’t think you have a clue.

@kb Unless you have it contractually agreed, you're not entitled to anything. Bonuses in general are discretionary.

OP,
You are not entitled to a bonus or anything really. You are on leave and technically not even an active employee. You should be more worried about your child than this place.
You are likely to get a PIP when you come back anyway.

Nope. I gave my 15 weeks notice per required to remain “Bonus eligible” for my level before retiring to remain bonus eligible.

I worked all weekends and a full time plus for a 60 hour work week every week.

I retired and they shafted me …zero bonus. It was the first time ever. I won’t even answer a call to any one left and believe me….I was a heavy hitter and I know for a fact that I was utterly non replaceable.

@k1 how snarky and unfeeling! Clearly you must be clueless that not every maternity leave is 8 months or longer many are just 12 weeks which means that the person on leave is still entitled to a bonus for the previous year of work especially if the leave started in November or December.

Gee, imagine if all of us could go out on maternity and get a bonus too.
What a wonderful world that would be.
Why not quit BNY and be a stay at home Mom as a true Bonus?

As a manager, no we do not have to contact you while on leave to connect on any of that . You are on leave and technically a suspended employee in the system so those conversations are not to occur until you officially return

@ez sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. Did you receive your bonus while on a leave or did you have to wait until back?

When I was on maternity leave (Ireland) my manager called me to give payrise/bonus info. This was several years ago. I'm not sure on the official requirements.
I was sc--wed over with low bonus and payrise due to being off

i just returned from parental leave as well. you should definitely have a checkin with your boss for 5 min halfway into your leave just to tie any loose ends on things like year ends, return date, etc basically so they dont forget about you

Congratulations to you on your new baby. At this sh*thole, nothing ethical required of managers. During your leave find another employer. Start when you’re able and collect two paychecks and then tell BNYM to kiss your a-s and resign once your leave is over.

If they don't have a meeting, it is released automatically about 72 hours later to you anyway.

@OP How is this related to being laid off? Just go ask your manager as it will be a matter between you and them.
