Has anyone heard anything here? There were some commentary on this forum but looks like they got taken down. I always thought Consultant Relations roles were like cushy sales gigs where they weren’t on the hook for any actual sales.

@3xa if the sales team were good at their jobs then the company would be in net inflows
@40q so issues with management then?
@3er OMG - I hear this all the time. Yeah seems like a busy role if you’re a muppet. The industry knows this. The business knows this. Heck even the Investments team knows this. That’s why so many of the CRG people are given extra roles and responsibilities. It’s like turning a blind eye to the slackers when things are good and then turning and saying hey team um how about doing some work and covering more now.
@43f it’s a relative value trade that you hope pays off
@42p you can LinkedIn search where the Distribution guys and gals go. No where nice most of the time. But probably better than than this dump.
@40q Where did these people end up going?
@3xa if you think all these people in London have gone on to bigger and better things then you have a severely warped understanding of peers in the industry. Leaving for underperforming boutiques and declining European managers isn’t going for gold. Sure one or two have gone to nice jobs and asset managers, but they are the minority.
@3vy Or maybe it's because they are good at their jobs and get offered a lot to move elsewhere? Team has a good rep and others are willing to pay up whereas maybe T. Rowe is not. Seen same hapen in other distribution teams.
London CRG team has changed so much. The team appeared to get along before but I wonder how much is down to the head honcho?
@3b9 If you don't do the role, how on earth would you know? I have worked alongside CR for many years and know that it is a busy role, Many consultants have a lot of their research folks OUS.
@38h that’s true but it doesn’t make it a full time job in most places OUS. Especially in this day and age. It’s a total waste of resources and headcount.
@336 It does the work that no other Distrubution team does.
@OP what actually does CRG do at a firm like this where you have so many other teams that do the work?
@17f I see the lunatics have taken over the asylum...
@169 And for those of us in the US let’s go schmooze at the Valley Inn and see who we can kiss up to…
@146 100%. A panel of several clients/prospects is hardly a full time role. Also if you're in one of those joke regions like Australia where the “consultants” are largely pay to play then I’m sorry but that is not even half a role.
@15d yeah bro and most of the large global consultants have their ratings done out of the US for their flagship strategies. What actually rated offshore? Some in London and very little elsewhere? Or a few strategies that barely move the needle
@16g please enlighten us?
@15d Possible you might need to educate yourself about consultants OUS.
@146 lol meeting count a bit light. Time for a “client lunch”. Ahem long, boozy lunch.
@146 agreed. Like I don’t get how CR roles are full time jobs OUS. I get in America there are tons of consultants but in APAC and EMEA??? Do you really need one headcount to look after several small fry relationships? Especially where the consultant doesn’t have full delegated authority on assets.
@128 I think the poster was implying you layoff most of CRG? Many other asset managers have their Distribution teams cover Consultants like any other channel. I agree given the activity levels I’ve observed from some of these people. One of them said they spent a month prepping for one meeting with a run of the mill researcher. What a great use of time. Not.
@v8 Where do the savings come from if you just shift it?
Why wouldn’t the company just fold CRG into broader GD RM teams? It makes total sense and would save a lot of money.
@pr Unsurprisingly, you have got this the wrong way round. I am a very big fan of the CR Group. Smart people and good people. It is those that besmirch them, as was exhibited on this thread, those that lack basic wit and wisdom, with whom I take issue. Stand down.
@mb They sit on the 6th floor of the east building. Why don’t you walk over and say it to them big man. Let’s see if your swagger translates beyond the online world
@kd Very happy to say it to anyone's face. Bring them over.
The anonymous part of this site means rumors are encouraged because the point is to bring them here and then say “has anyone else heard this?”
Unfortunately the anonymous part also is making a lot of people think they can just treat people like garbage. You’re not talking to some random person, wends basically co-workers and people think it’s totally fine to say something on a computer that you’d never say in person. You’re part of the problem if you think that’s totally ok. Touch grass
@hc Why? Because some people post the most ridiculous comments on here that have no basis in fact nor informed opinion. They just bang on and make stupid comments that, in themselves, are morale-sapping. When they do so, they get a little back. Yousee how it works?
@fx Why are people so nasty on here? It just sinks moral for the rest of us, as if we need our morale tanked any further. 🤔
@dt Another poster with just an empty space btween their ears.
That job sounds like free lunches and chances to access to the firm's boxes at Camden Yards and M&T. SIGN ME UP!
@OP I don’t think there’s been any large layoffs with them. They’re not a massive team to begin with.
Heard anything about what?
