"Oracle blood bath is happening big time starting from yesterday (8/and still going on as of today. Oracle Cloud (OCI), Netsuite, VB, Jet, My SQL and other areas majorly affected.
No official numbers yet but around 10%.
Affected across roles:

H1Bs and US citizens
Employees based in India and in the US
Employees at all levels up to SVP
Low performers and high performers
New joiners and employees with 20 years at Oracle
Engineers and Project Managers"

Open AI has an estimated $30B annual Oracle contract. One customer.

The layoffs were reported to help fund cash flow/ capital for the DC expansion.

I was let go before I even started.

@gz Totally agree. Organising to protect yourself and co-workers is labelled as socialist (used to be communist) and therefore bad. It isn't bad and it isn't socialist, it's common sense. But then common sense isn't all that common is it? It's an abhorrent system that allows an employee to be fired with no notice and no compensation if the employer so chooses.
Ask any European if they would surrender their employment rights for the American system and they'd laugh you out of the room.

@ka What Germany and France could obtain thanks to the laws that were voted long ago as a result of union fights for employees is a compromise between a fact that a company that makes profit still can layoff people BUT if it wants it to be fast it must negotiate a deal with unions representing the employees in this company.

It's a Win-Win deal: the company layoff quicker and the employees get more money than what they could have if the process was implemented which takes several months to complete.

There is no way you can negotiate a similar deal individually.

@gz Unions are just controlled opposition and are just as corrupt as the governments they proport to fight for your "workers rights."

How anyone can believe that setting up an additional layer of corrupt people claiming to protect them from another layer of corrupt people is beyond me.

Focus on fixing the political layer.

No Western government will ever stand up for workers. The only reason Europeans have labor protections is because the WORKERS there united and fought for them.

That isn't going to happen in the US. Half the workers in this country are brainwashed into believing that organizing is bad, and they're satisfied with politicians as long as they talk the talk while slashing benefits for working families in the name of "fighting fraud" (LOL). Meanwhile they take that money and happily give handouts to actual fraudster billionaires and thieving corporations. The other half are completely cowed and incapable of fighting for themselves and will eagerly elect a corporate stooge as long as they say Trump bad.

If Americans want labor rights then we need to stop gobbling up BS corporate propaganda and be prepared to get labeled "socialists" because we want minimal labor protections. Just watch some rando respond and try to lecture me about how organizing will turn the US into a "socialist" garbage bin because employers won't be able to dump you on a day's notice anymore. It would be so very hard on the billionaires if they couldn't abuse us like that.

This will not impact SAP. They are on their own path and are dying a slow death. CK and the new CFO dude are fine at the financial engineering of deals, etc, but there is no innovation at SAP....and their focus on customer lock-in will eventually lose steam.

@b7 I can understand if people are underperforming or they can't or refuse to change to new technologies. But here they get rid of engineers because they are good performers and good salary just to reduce salaries and replace them with engineers in low cost centers/countries.

Governments need to stand up for their people and put tariffs on companies who have this behavior....because at large scale there will be no software engineers in western countries like there is no textile industry...

Companies will not meet their financial expectations and therefore will need to cut. Political climate is challenging therefore organization need to restructure for profit and some may positions themselves to purchase companies.

May be it's time to change from tech and software to something more meaningful to people and the planet.
