Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Heart goes out to those impacted!

As the post says, my heart goes out to those impacted in January.

When I was impacted in 2023, I had a designated HR person assigned to me to help try and find another internal role, which I was able to do. From what I’m hearing and seeing online, this round of layoffs is different from those in the past, as there is no HR person designated to those to find another internal role, instead it’s a 3rd party company LHH that is being offered for resume and interviewing classes to help with “being successful after USAA.”

You would think USAA would try to find those impacted another role to lessen the number it has to report to each states workforce commission.

But for USAA recruiters to do what they’re currently doing to so many impacted, that is not cool at all.

@k4 I missed out on 2 interviews because the recruiter sent them to my work email, when she finally responded to my calls and emails, only thing said to me was “oh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t know.” Well, sorry cost me 2 interviews, when I let Employee Relations know, they said the same thing “we’re sorry, but the hiring process ended for those postings, keep applying for roles you’re qualified for.”

@k4 this is true, and unfortunately those impacted can’t really say anything to employee relations, all it takes is one ER rep to say they were being aggressive and bo-m, severance is lost.

They don’t care about us.

Agree this round of layoffs was horribly executed. Recruiters are not doing what they say and sending interview planners etc to work email when they know folks don’t have access. Cut off email great - the let employees at least turn on OOO for internal emails stating they no longer have access to email so recruiters will use the personal contact info. USAA leadership should be ashamed of themselves.

I know quite a few of the ones impacted from this last round, and USAA is treating them like they were fired. For those that are trying to find another internal role, this will happen again, it’s no longer IF, but when it happens, and this goes to all bank employees, especially those who have tenure over 15 years, start planning like it’s your time, cut expenses and save where you can. The cuts coming in April will match what happened in January.

What surprised me with this last round was security escorting many of those employees out of the building, that was seriously f_cked up.

I was impacted in October 2022, same here, I had a designated HR rep, she helped me get numerous certifications, which helped me land another internal role. I knew back then, it wasn’t IF, but WHEN it happens again, so I started cutting cost, saving and it happened again April 2024, only difference was my salary was much higher, took advantage of the education benefits to finish my degree and was able to land a job for same salary at Citibank a few months later.

Sad to see USAA treating its employees like this, Gen Robles is turning in his grave at Ft Sam Houston right now.
