Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Upcoming layoffs

As we all know, Thomson Reuters does massive layoffs every year in November. If you got a really good review on your midyear review, can you assume that you’re safe this year? Has anyone ever heard of someone getting a great review during their mid year review but still finding themselves in the lay off list that year?

@pr 'Staff reductions will continue until the stock price improves.'
i agree with you but lmao. its sort of like dumping fuel from a plane to try to stay in the air longer.

the stock price ought to see a massive correction anyways. let it tank or go flat for the next 5 years while you adequately hire staff that will build high quality products without being burnt out 24/7. the company needs a full re-boot.

@jv I think it depends a lot on the division. I've heard from several hiring managers that because it's so arduous to fire people, they have sort of a list of who they'll choose if their division needs to lay people off.

@kb sorry to hear. Thomson Reuters has become such a disgusting company. I wonder what would happen if all those on fake PIPs to avoid paying severance sued them jointly.

One of my co-workers was removed from PIP and then added back. Terminated weeks later to avoid paying severance.

When it comes to layoffs it’s a cost cutting exercise, usually it’s bottom line nothing to do with individual performance. If it was performance related you would be put on a pip and managed out that way. So yes people who are high performers can be laid off.

@OP yes, I know of several people that have been let go not due to their performance, but as part of a restructuring or general reduction in force. I think that is what makes it so stressful for all of us at this time of the year - not knowing what the basis is (and that it differs from department to department or region).
