Milestone 300 Celebration - Next Week

Hello fellow Imperial colleagues:

I work in a group out of the US that has been supporting the Imperial Transformation Teams and corresponding activities (data analytics). We have been involved since early October, and I have been part of the team keeping track of key metrics which we provide to your Leadership teams. Like many of you, we have been notified with a near term end date... So, I would like to share some of the latest data with you:

  • Average of ~ 15 individuals per week leave, or are let go
  • Current Total is sitting at ~ 288 employees who have either left, or been asked to leave the company. This is Imperial company wide. This does not include retirements.

Breakdown as follows:

Quarry Park 30%
Kearl 16%
Cold Lake 10%
No Assigned Loc. 12%
Strathcona 7%
Sarnia Ref & Chem 6%
Nanticoke 5%
Dartmouth Term. 2%
Hebron Way 2%
Sarnia Research 2%

Remaining 7% consists of various Terminals and/or other misc. locations.

At the current average rate, the Total number of employees who have resigned or been let go will cross the 300 mark next week.

Please discuss with your supervisors if there will be any celebrations on achieving this significant mile stone (Exxon generally likes to celebrate key Mile Stones).

I'm sorry for what you folks are going thru. I'll re-visit the site every now and then and provide updates.

When will the company need to shutdown Kearl and cold lake due to being below minimum staffing for safe operation? These assets will be making so much money now with the oil prices and EM have sc--wed the assets over a few bucks

Does anyone have data or insights of the offered severance package for these 288 people terminated in the first wave ?

@dt This data does not include expats. The data connection we have been provided is limited to only Imperial Oil Company codes. Employees that go on expat get assigned under the new home Company code.

At least in our group, we don't have data fields to link individuals on expat back to Imperial Oil company.

I will provide updates as long as I can. There is a saying down here, we are all 'gone pecan'! Y'all take care for now.

This post offers more insight than those silly organizational updates. “This is what a refinery does … we’ve been operating for more than 100 years…”. Useless.

I was offered a position to stay but I elect to take my skills somewhere else. I’m presently on salary negotiations. As they say, your career progression is in your hands.

Put me down as #290. I wish you all the best of luck!

Thanks for sharing, interesting info, and please keep us posted!

It definitely does seem like there's been a steady stream of departures. And for the most part, seems like the people leaving on their own terms were the ones that the company should be trying to keep. The company will meet the headcount targets the way things are going, but they aren't going to end up with the best mix of skillsets.

OP- are Expats included in this data? Do you have any breakdown information for them?

While about 80% of Sarnia research has left since NALI announcement, those remaining are starting to be officially laid off. First batch end of March, next batch end of April. By year end there will be 3 left to turn the lights out.
