@rd Seriously?? Hocevar was a slimy backstabbing weasel. He scr*wed over so many people on his teams over the years. He helped Cordani do the dirty work behind the scenes to sabotage the Anthem deal but he was ultimately made the fall guy.

I guess that says even more about Cordani.

Failing up seems to be a common theme in shrinking companies.

IMHO
By promoting the former CFO, the board has shown it's plans. Outsource to cut short term costs, make the blance sheet attractive to potential suitors. The Cigna Group was built too big for a market that is changing underneath it.

Cordani got out while the getting out wa$ good and his ego wasn't going to get hurt as the company is sold off piece by piece. He won't have to be the CEO of a smaller corporation that would be left over after. One need only look at the actions of leadership back when the merger with BCBS was in play a few years back. I don't think the Cigna leadership team were going to take a back seat in the c-suite to anyone.

To be fair we should look at his track record before judging too harshly.

1) He ran the IFP business that lost lots of money every year except one

2) He ran the Medicare business that didn’t grow and had to be sold to cut our losses

3) He was the CFO during the time when the company’s expenses were out of control.

Um, never mind. Go ahead and judge.

David will be on the board so he can continue to be Brian’s puppet master - that’s the saving grace. The company I think will continue the downward spiral under his regime. I was given the VRP in September- definitely ageism. I had to agree to not sue because of my age. Terrible and disgusting after 28 years

If you're looking for a sign of how Evanko will handle things, just look at what happened with Cigna Medicare. It was his responsibility to ensure that business ran smoothly, and it ended up being the opposite. Ultimately, the performance was so poor they had to sell it off.

Yes, the guy who was the CFO while our expenses got out of control which led to thousands of employees losing their jobs in a frantic cost cutting exercise is being rewarded with the CEO job. You can’t make this stuff up.
