Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

For those new to the process

The day starts just like any other. You are asked to remain close to your station in the event you are selected, and the selection process usually is undertaken in the morning. It’s a nerve wracking day and you can’t help but stare at the door or entrance you know supervisors or managers would enter if you’re about to get let go. But I’ve been through 5 or so of these staff reduction days by now. Perhaps my number is up this round, maybe it isn’t, it’s out of my hands. What I do know is if my supervisor does come through that entrance this time around, I’ll be professional and gracious for the package, and that I’ll also be wearing different colours by year end.

Wrong. The company will not re-hire a previously layed off employee. There is a chance to work as a consultant, not as an employee.

Good advice to go out with class. Months and years later, there are quite a few people that end up being rehired after these events have faded away and the company is growing again.

Going out with class is smart. You cannot take back any angry or profane words that come out of your mouth. It takes some people two or three layoffs to figure this out. If you are professional about it you can use your boss as a reference or even consider them on the friend list in the future. A useful technique is to image the worst and prepare for your emotional reaction ahead of time. You might even act out and yell and scream now to get it out of your system. If you end up putting a hole through dry wall at home there are online videos on how to do a patch.

@hy they were in meetings this past week. I'm sure most decisions have been made but probably not final sign off yet.

By now I wonder if the Bosses know exactly what jobs are being cut. I would think, the list has been made. So now we wait and wait till November 10.

Sorry, this post is a bunch of BS. It wont happen this way this time.

Also - the guy who keeps talking about his differential rating. You might be amazing at what you do, but if your role is not needed anymore then you are toast. It has nothing to do with your manager and everything to do with your role not being needed.

Your manager won’t even tell you you’re being let go. It’s going to all be done by the HR drones over teams.

My manager is a cu-t. But I have also decided to take my layoff with class. I will just say “thanks for the opportunity this last x years”. I have spent years developing a good reputation, differential rated multiple times and I am not going to compromise who I am because they have failed to be a leader.
