Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

JE decision

If there’s a manager, or HR… or whoever that knows this please, who is making the decision of who is eliminated from their team? Does this come randomly by HR or does manager have a say on who leaves?

In addition to previous statement, 65% of layoffs over the last 2 years have been Band 4 employees. These are factual numbers - Let that sink in. Band 4 is the hands on, technically skilled members and are being replaced by quantity via HIH hiring.

This is as anti American of a policy as any American company has ever implemented. And PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SHOULD IMPLEMENT STEEP PENALTIES to companies based on the number of non American employees they utilize.

My opinion is it's a numbers game. If you negotiated well and did what was best for you in terms of growing your salary at Cigna over the years, you may be put on the chopping block if they look your direction hard enough. For instance, if your manager has to be cut and you are on the higher end of your pay band -- you may just get the axe as well. Penalized for getting paid well is what it is and it's a form of discriminatory action that is taking place at Cigna.

The severance offered by Cigna is a joke and just know people are keeping receipts. Incoming action.

Doesn't make sense to me if very talented physicians and nurses were let go on 1/29 as well.

@hs Was this the same case if the senior director was also let go, as well as a manager reporting under them, and a few under that manager?

@h2 Yeah Ill be honest. I just picked the folks I didn't care for or were problems to deal with. This is a blessing to get rid of the non performers.

My manager has been very transparent and told me she was forced to rank her team as most to least valuable and then submit however many names she is told to. She has expressed to me how awful this process is and it is incredibly stressful and upsetting. I am at the point where I am going to make it easier for her and just throw my hat in the ring. I have been silently working on my plan B for awhile now so I will be fine to get JEd.

@de your manager is probably not telling the truth then. I am a manager and the 20 managers I know all over the company either had input or directly chose.

Looks like it’s the Sr Director level.

@da people say there is no input because there isn't. We have seen the best team members, recognized frequently for their contributions, with consistently good reviews and 9 box ratings, listed for JE. Manager was not consulted, they were told. The only guess is the salaries were in the range that leadership needed to cut. Remember the purpose of JE and VRP is to fix the numbers today and deal with the fallout tomorrow.

I don't understand why people say Managers have no say. There are plenty of places for input. For example 9-Box assessments. Also annual reviews and comp planning were just completed. Direct managers are involved in all of those conversations and the results go into the JE decisions.

depends on the area but it's never HR deciding.

It mostly comes from band 5 leaders. HR does not make these decisions. They support the decisions made by the department leaders.

@cn I’m a manager and was 100% able to choose who was let go.

Directors and managers have no say. Upper leadership gets list of people on the team and decide. I lost 3 people in January and had no say.
