Anybody else being given more meaningless "busy" work by their manager when you already have more than enough work of your own and are actually busy tying to get it done? Can there be any other point to this other than intentionally trying to make me look incompetent?

We are run by people who insist we need to do it a certain way because that's what the client wants. I can tell you the client thinks DXC does it this way because that's how DXC does it, and has always done it! That certain way is lots of word docs, powerpoints, spreadsheets all emailed around. None of that paperwork helps provide a better working service in my experience.
A persistent issue at both CSC and DXC has been the organizational focus on managing internal complexity rather than creating customer value. This helps explain why the business has been shrinking for more than two decades.
@hr The longer it takes the more we can bill clients. But the tide is turning. We don't get asked to do very much these days so they don't have to pay. But you ask for VR and the client blocks it and says but that person is essential. The management are too weak to stand up to them and say well you can pay for our staff to work or sit there, but we are not going to have them on the DXC bench. Pay for people or release them!
@hr got an example of what you mean?
The simplest of tasks quickly turns into a project that takes months. With purchase orders, requirements, project management, blocked due to lack of access, change control and a need to report on status every day.
Anywhere else it would be done and deployed same day.
@cn Absolutely spot on. You must be on my account. I’ve got 3 managers who just want to micro manage us all day. Constant daily stand ups, pointless spreadsheets, creation of meaningless tasks to monitor us on and meetings with their managers to brag about how busy we all are. All the while, the account drags on with little or no progress. I cannot believe what I witness on a daily basis. Job creation is an art for some of these buffoons. Too old to leave so just riding it out.
We're all so busy that the only time we can put a meeting in is lunchtime! DXC owns you 24x7! Unless you just quit.
Our team feels completely fragmented now. I barely know what anyone else is working on, and honestly I suspect not much is happening a lot of the time.
We’re allocated to projects where PMs seem to assume that any time spent waiting for access, requirements, client feedback, or testing somehow gets “banked” and can be reclaimed later. That would be manageable if expectations were clear upfront — for example, “we won’t need you next week.” But instead it’s always “I’ll be in touch shortly.”
What does “shortly” mean? This morning? Next month? July?
So you end up stuck in permanent standby mode, never feeling able to properly start anything else because you might suddenly be needed. After a while it becomes exhausting. Then the moment you finally step away for half an hour, that’s inevitably when someone appears and you get criticised for not being instantly available.
The working culture at DXC is Toxic.
Oasis is the panacea!
Our Team has lost 70% of the staff over the past 2 years and the workload has increased. We seem to have lots of bored Managers with nothing to do other than to load us up with additional side tasks, with no additional time given to complete it. Then they want all these surveys, trainings, etc then on top of try to find any and every way possible to harass us. So rather than jump into the trenches to handle the actual work which keeps the contract, they're content with doing everything possible to hurt our efforts. It's insanity.
Pipe down, fill in your timesheet and complete your security training.
Oasis is busy doing all the real work, leaving employees to lead a life of leisure.
I'm the opposite. I have no work to do, evidently it's coming but everyone else is too busy on other things to get me started. They are probably busy on the busy work you mention. I am not inclined to call it out for fear of being given work busy tasks for the sake of keeping me occupied. Learning things which are irrelevant and all that. I don't want to start. I'm hoping the AI infused time recording will notice I have done nothing for months and put me on a list for redundancy. It's mentally draining being stuck in limbo land.
