@h2 Yes you can apply after you receive your 60-day notice. When you fill out the forms you would put the start date for unemployment benefits for the day after your 60-day notice is up.
This is according to a few people I know from Barnhart who have already been laid off. I’m still sitting here waiting for my notice.
@bg Thank you! When did you apply... during 60 days notice period or after the notice period? technically we're still employees during notice period so not sure how some say we can apply when we're still employees of WF during that period.
If you read your displacement package it explains that you can apply for unemployment after your 60 days and gives additional information. I know it's a lot of pages but is worth reading
"Waiting to file close to the end of your severance" is just bad advice. The state suggests you file as soon as possible. Having to file "backpay" will cause issues.
"Oregon Emplyment Department strongly suggests that you file your claim as soon as you lose your job, do not wait to file"
I am in Oregon and was displaced. the answer to OPs question is YES.
6 months of $800 =/- per week.
I personally wouldn’t apply for unemployment until you’re getting close to the end of severance pay. The job market is rough right now and you don’t know how long you’ll need some sort of income coming in before you can find a new job. But that’s just me. Best to you!
No state can prevent you from getting severance. However some states won't approve unemployment if you're also getting severance. Should be easy to search.
Yes, you can.
In Oregon you don’t have to report severance pay to the unemployment office, nor does receiving severance pay affect your eligibility to receive unemployment benefits. (It says so on their website)
You would have to wait until after the 60-day notice period is over to start receiving unemployment benefits, but I also seem to recall someone on this forum saying you can actually file your claim ahead of time with a start date after the 60-day period is up.
There may be a lump sum option. If you take weekly pays you wouldn’t be able for UE, I assume.
