Thread regarding TIAA (TIAA-CREF) layoffs

Trying to turn a new leaf

I’ve been trying to get healthier this year by eating more fresh fruits and veg, fewer processed foods, and being consistently active throughout the day. I find that my legs feel better when they’re moving throughout the workday. Does the CLT office have any treadmill desks or walking pads available? My last employer had walking desks that you could book, and I have a walking pad at home. Great for those Zoom meetings where you need to focus but don’t need to talk. Get 2k steps in off camera. TIAA has always been about promoting healthy lifestyles for their employees! Hope there are walking desks I don’t know about for the 3-4 days I’m here for 9 hours at a time.

@h5 why are you downvoted for sharing the location of the desk bike? I swear some of these people here are worse than Redditors

@eq haha, I just saw one of those cubicle bikes on my floor today. Wasn’t sure if belonged to someone and they personally lugged it up to the fourth floor!

There are cubicle bikes in nuveen Hall. You sit them on and ride at your desk.

Either way, talk to your manager about taking 1 or 2 walking breaks a day. The Charlotte campus is beautiful and well maintained with lots of walking trails. There's a green way 100ft from gate 1 as well. Get in early or stay late and hit the fitness center up. There are free group chats through out the day

Glad to hear you’re seeking better health, but do not stay chained to your desk. Get outside for a few ten minute walks around the campus. Once it’s hotter, hit the atrium and do a lap each floor. Heck sometimes I go to the parking garage where it’s shaded and start at the bottom and go to the top.

But again, get away from your desk. Mental clarity is what keeps you sane here.

Can’t think of anything more annoying than hearing you clumping your hooves for nine hours straight in the next cubicle over. Sit your cheeks down and hit the gym after work. There, problem solved.

Walk laps around the atrium.

Block your calendar to take a walk.

Way to go mate! You’re right, a consistently active lifestyle leads to longevity and overall happiness. Too many people sit all day - work breaks help a little but there’s nothing better than keeping your blood flowing and your heart rate slightly elevated for longer durations throughout the day. I haven’t seen any treadmill desks around but that’s a great suggestion. Would help us busy people who sit on a lot of calls be able to stretch our legs and work out some stiff joints and muscles. Let us know if you find anything out. This isn’t the best place to ask sincere questions bc there are too many bitter, jealous people throwing stones from behind anonymous keyboards around here. Im a hardcore lurker but I wanted to jump in and congratulate you for making healthier choices and thinking outside the box. You’re already light years ahead of the average middle-aged office worker! Keep up the momentum.

This is sad.

It's like you see nothing wrong with putting yourself onto a literal quasi-hamsterwheel, while working.

Just take breaks away from your desk, and eat lunch at your desk, so you can go outside and take a nice long brisk walk for your lunch hour.
