Company Hours and OT?

Does anyone know when we are closed the next two weeks? If we are being asked to work do we get overtime pay or 2x for a holiday week? I asked my manager but didn’t get any response. I want to work OT as I could use the extra cash and it seems like this would be double pay. Can anyone tell me what the policy is?

It’s probably best explained as an example. Let’s say you work 10 hour days 5 days a week this week, including Christmas Day. 50 hours total. For this week, you will receive 40 hours of regular pay, plus 8 hours of holiday pay (at your normal rate), plus 10 hours of overtime pay (x1.5 rate). If you only worked 8 hours a day, same days, you will get 48 hours of pay at your normal rate (40 regular pay hours + 8 holiday hours).

You will only earn overtime pay if you work over 40 hours of regular pay. Holiday pay doesn’t count towards regular pay, which makes it hard to earn overtime around holidays. If you work on a holiday, you’ll get your regular pay and holiday pay. I hope this helps!

We are only closed Christmas Day and New Years Day. Hope that helps. You would not get overtime unless you worked beyond 8 hours of straight pay first. The only way you would get “holiday pay” is if you’re working either Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

We’re a health insurance company. People get sick and need prior authorizations and claim support regardless of if it’s a holiday or not. Closing for 2 weeks? A) never happened in the past, never will in the future. B) carefully read any member or provider contract with us. Availability minimums are stated in there.
I don’t think @op posted in the right thelayoff.com area.
P.S. Happy holiday to all.

@gz agree -this company never would close for 2 weeks. People are calling members the day before Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and NY eve - they love it! NOT - they will allow you to "close" at 5pm your time zone.

I've been with the company for a minute, and we never shut down for two weeks over Christmas. We get Christmas Day and New Years Day and that's it. Unless you're working those two days, there's no such thing as extra pay.

@OP Maybe call HR and mention your manager did not respond - that should go over well. If you are salaried there is no such thing as overtime.
