I got a new role as an internal applicant Coding Analyst they switched my team that I would work on and told me about the switch 2 days before training. This other team does not sound like a Coding Analyst Role it sounds like a Medical Coder role not even clear what the work is supposed to be. Is this a normal thing at Optum with the bait and switch last minute? Anyone have any insight?

Empire building 101. They get you in the door in one area since in budget then do restructure soon after. If job req is not cancelled not gonna let it go to waste gonna put a butt in that seat. Its a check easier to look around while you getting paid. Career , strike that word from your vocabulary its a string of jobs
@OP Roles are replaced with AI. More like $31 per day in IN/PH if still kept. Look up Optum Real announced this week.
They let me know that they’re switching the team that I would be working on 2 days before the training started. Recruiting or HR did not even contact me ahead of time to see if I even still wanted the position, the other team is more complex work. I feel like they did that on purpose so I couldn’t ask for better pay $31.25 hr seems on the lower end for this position having almost 10 yrs of coding experience. The manager that I report to was super evasive as to why they did that, seems super shady…
@gz 2 week notice is simply a courtesy to stay in the companies good graces if you want to be rehired at a later date. Dropping out during training without extenuating circumstance will likely null a 2 week notice if given. Always do whats in your best interest. Good luck to you.
This happened to me, but it happened a few months after I was hired. Optum views its employees in a very objectified way. We are resources to be moved around in the name of "business need" and to he-l with what we were hired to do, or if it even aligns with our strengths and career trajectory.
Same thing happened to me now I don’t even want to finish the training. Feel like I should just quit. Anyone else quit the job without finishing training, do you need to do a 2 week notice?
I work in a different area but the same thing happened to me. I was hired for one thing but am doing something else. I genuinely can't tell if things changed or if this was the plan all along.
Yes Optum bait and switches . Calls it " business need"
If you are moving to OI coding analyst be prepared to a toxic work culture. Cut throat and mandatory OT.
My insight - this is a message board about layoffs.
